Marseille ask about Zalewski availability as Roma faces contract dilemma

Start

Nicola Zalewski’s relationship with Roma has become increasingly complex throughout the season. The Polish winger, reintegrated into the squad in early October, has struggled to secure a prominent role in the Giallorossi lineup. This year, the product of Roma’s youth academy has made 15 appearances across all competitions (Serie A, Coppa Italia, and Europa League), but hasn’t played a minute since December 18th, when he featured in the Coppa Italia round of 16 against Sampdoria. In recent league matches, he has been unused by manager Claudio Ranieri in the last three games, while previously (against Atalanta and Lecce) he came on as a substitute for a total of 17 minutes.

Calciomcercato detail how this situation is far from ideal for the Polish player, whose contract is set to expire on June 30th. Negotiations for a renewal have been stalled since his reintegration into the squad. In October, it seemed like a formality, but significant progress towards extending the agreement between the parties has not been made. From rejecting offers from Galatasaray and PSV to expressing a desire to remain in the capital (with the possibility of leaving on a free transfer, an attitude that led to his marginalization from the project), January now risks being the right showcase for a farewell.

The difficult relationship with the club environment could lead to a strong decision, a definitive break after last summer’s attempts. As reported by Relevo, a new idea has emerged for Zalewski’s future: in case of a non-renewal – a likely solution given the current state of affairs – Marseille is an option to be strongly considered in this winter transfer window. The parties are looking for a solution, and the French club has already inquired about the player, aiming to beat the competition from several teams interested in signing him for free in June. Marseille is making a move for Zalewski.
