Milanese clubs set to miss out on Dortmund pillar Akanji

With the transfer window nearing to a close, it seems that both Milanese clubs are set to miss out on the signing of the Borussia Dortmund pillar Manuel Akanji as he is tipped towards a move to Manchester City.

According to reports from The Athletic, the Premier League giants are set to offer a hefty fee of 17.5m to lure the Swiss international to the Etihad Stadium. It seems very likely that the Bundesliga outfits will accept the opening bid as the experienced shot-stopper’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

The 27 year-old was rated very highly by both sides of Milan as he made 119 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, helping them obtain a DFL Supercup and a DFB Pokal throughout his stay.

Despite Akanji being the first-choice center-back within the shortlists of both clubs, it seems that both Serie A giants have found their respective alternatives as Malik Thiaw has signed for Milan from Schalke on a long-term deal, as well as Inter currently extremely close to confirming the signing of Francesco Acerbi.
