Napoli eyeing Lille’s Jonathan David as Victor Osimhen’s potential replacement

Start

Napoli are being linked with a move for Lille striker Jonathan David as a potential replacement for Victor Osimhen. With Paris Saint-Germain looming as the likely destination for Victor Osimhen, Napoli seem resigned to his departure, however, the reigning champions are actively preparing for the striker’s exit.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, while finding a suitable replacement for Osimhen presents a challenge, Jonathan David of Lille emerges as the prime candidate to fill the void left by the Nigerian international.

Despite competition for the Canadian forward in the transfer market, Napoli’s club CEO Aurelio de Laurentiis has yet to expedite negotiations for David. However, relations between Napoli and Lille are reported to be favorable, potentially smoothing the path to a deal.

Previously, Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez appeared as a viable replacement. However, Napoli encountered hurdles due to the Dutch club’s steep asking price, currently set at around €60 million. In contrast, David presents a more financially feasible option, given that his contract expires in the summer of 2025, making him an attractive target for Napoli.
