AC Milan welcome Cremonese to the San Siro on August 23rd and we have looked into the predicted lineups for the Rossoneri’s Serie A opener.

AC Milan vs Cremonese Preview

The Rossoneri enter the 2025/26 season under a fresh regime, as Massimiliano Allegri returns to Milan for his second spell in charge following a four-year spell with the club between 2010-2014.

Allegri’s appointment came after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign for Milan, missing out on European qualification with an eighth-placed finish and losing in the Coppa Italia final.

Milan were also eliminated in the Champions League Ro16 after a two-legged defeat to Feyenoord and Sergio Conceicao was relieved of his duties in the months following.

During the summer transfer window, Allegri has been slowly strengthening his new roster, bringing in Luka Modric, Samuele Ricci, Koni De Winter, Ardon Jashari, Pervis Estupinan, Zakhary Athekame and Pietro Terraccino.

The seven-time Champions League winners are also one of the three Serie A sides that have been offered Adrien Rabiot, as the Frenchman’s time with Marseille looks to be all-but over following a bust-up with Jonathan Rowe.

Milan have already opened their competitive campaign, as Allegri’s side beat Bari 2-0 in the second round of the Coppa Italia, thanks to goals from Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic.

Cremonese earned a place in Italy’s first division after winning the Serie B play-offs and return to Serie A after two seasons away – thanks to the expertise of Davide Nicola.

The newly-promoted side have also begun their competitive campaign and did not get off to the same start as their upcoming opponents, with Cremonese losing to Palermo in the Coppa Italia.

Nicola has made wholesale changes to his side, bringing in a whopping 13 additions, including: Jari Vandeputte, Federico Baschirotto, Antonio Sanabria, Giuseppe Pezzella, Andrea Fulignati, Warren Bondo, Filippo Terracciano, Alessio Zerbin, Marco Silvestri, Lapo Nava, Alberto Grassi, Emil Audero and Romano Floriani Mussolini.

Milan and Cremonese last two league meetings came in the 2022/23 season, with both matches ending as a draw and the meeting at the San Siro finished 1-1.

AC Milan Team News

The Rossoneri were hit with a major blow during their Coppa Italia victory over Bari, as Rafael Leao suffered a calf injury and will now miss the Serie A opener.

An exact recovery time is yet to be revealed, but Milan have now revealed that the 26-year-old will be monitored on a day-to-day basis after the league opener.

On a more positive note, Leao is the only expected absence for the opening day of the season and Allegri will have a full squad to choose from against Cremonese.

Cremonese Team News

Davide Nicola will have to deal with a couple of absences for the opening day of the season, as a trio of important players will be suspended for the trip to the San Siro.

Tommaso Barbieri, Mattia Valoti and Franco Vazquez will all miss-out through suspension, while Frank Tsadjout and Gianluca Saro are also out through injury.

Summer signing, Warren Bondo, will also miss the opening day of the season as he is on loan from the Rossoneri and is ineligible to compete against his parent club.
