AC Milan Finally Rip Up Divock Origi’s Contract After Lengthy Talks With Transfer Flop

AC Milan have finally reached an agreement to terminate Divock Origi’s contract after months of talks.

How Much Divock Origi Was Earning At AC Milan

Mere hours after Niclas Fullkrug touched down in Italy ahead of joining on loan, multiple publications in Italy reported that Origi’s deal would be ripped up over three years on from his ill-fated move.

The paperwork has been officially signed, bringing an end to the striker’s spell at the San Siro by mutual consent.

Origi’s terms were set to run until June 2026, but Milan was keen to offload him after effectively freezing him out. However, the frontman stubbornly refused to cut his lucrative stay short.

His last appearance for the club came back in May 2023, and he had stopped training at Milanello. Last year, it was revealed that the Belgian had been working on his fitness in Rome and Florence instead.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Origi had been earning €300,000 per month, or €4million net per season.

Now, however, the slate has been wiped clean, leaving the former Liverpool man a free agent.

AC Milan Divock Origi Transfer Failure

Origi joined Milan after leaving Liverpool in July 2022, but became one of the worst transfers in the club’s history.

He made just 36 appearances over his three-year spell, all of which came in his first campaign. However, his meagre return of two goals saw him sent out on loan to Nottingham Forest for 2023-24.

After scoring one goal for Forest, the ace then returned to his parent club in July 2024 but never played again.

He was also dropped to the Milan Futuro youth team in a bid to force him out, but Origi continued to resist.

Reports emerged in June that he had demanded a golden handshake worth a further €2m to terminate his contract early. It is currently unclear whether he received the windfall before the deal was ripped up.

Divock Origi Still In Liverpool Folklore

Origi’s fall from grace is a stark contrast to his successful spell at Liverpool.

He made 175 appearances on Merseyside between 2015-2022, scoring 41 goals and registering 17 assists, and delivered several campaign-defining moments, including in the Champions League final in 2019.

The frontman scored a dramatic 96th-minute winner against Everton in the Merseyside derby in 2018, having headed home after Virgil van Dijk’s half-volley clattered against the crossbar at Anfield.

Origi was similarly crucial during the Reds’ charge to a sixth European Cup success the following year.

He scored twice, including from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s quickly taken corner, in a 4-3 aggregate comeback against Barcelona in the semi-final. Origi then netted in the final against Tottenham in Madrid.
