Former AC Milan Star Compares Luka Modric To Italian Legend and Makes Bold Scudetto Prediction For Rossoneri

Former AC Milan star, Demetrio Albertini, has compared Luka Modric to Italian icon, Andrea Pirlo and believes the Croatian can push the Rossoneri to the Scudetto.

Who Did Albertini Compare Luka Modric Too?

The Croatian midfielder completed a move to Milan during the 2025 summer transfer window, ending a 13-year spell with Real Madrid which saw Luka Modric become one of the best players in soccer.

During his time in Spain, Modric made 597 appearances for Los Blancos, winning six Champions Leagues, four La Liga titles, five Club World Cups, five UEFA Supercups, five Supercopa de Espanas and two Copa del Rays.

His performances in Madrid have translated seamlessly into the Milan midfield, starting in each of the Rossoneri’s four Serie A matches and contributing to two goals (1G +1A).

The 40-year-old is expected to feature in Milan’s Coppa Italia clash against Lecce, as Massimiliano Allegri looks to compete in every competition this season.

One man that has been impressed with Modric’s performances for Milan so far is former Rossoneri player, Demetrio Albertini, who won five Serie A titles with the club between 1991-1999.

The 54-year-old played with Italian icon, Andrea Pirlo, during their time in Milan and compared Luka Madoric to the former Rossoneri midfielder.

Albertini said: “The comparison holds up, and it’s no coincidence that they are both attacking midfielders who, during their careers, dropped deeper to put their quality at the service of the team. Before, the No.10s, from Platini to Giannini, were protected by holding midfielders and played higher up.

“Then we saw players like Ancelotti and me, who could both win back the ball and act as playmakers. Pirlo, in that role, changed football, and now Milan have another champion playing in front of the defence.”

Can AC Milan Win The Scudetto?

Massimiliano Allegri was brought in for his second spell with AC Milan after the Italian side put in an underwhelming performance last sesason – finishing eighth in Serie A.

The Rossoneri have made a superb start to their 2025/26 campaign, winning three of their four Serie A matches and sitting third in the table with nine points.

Christian Pulsic has shone during Rafael Leao’s absence, becoming the highest scoring USMNT in European soccer while Luka Modric has led by example in midfield.

Milan will be looking to push Inter, Napoli and Juventus for the Scudetto, which is something that Albertini believes is possible under Allegri this season.

Albertini said: “Milan cannot just compete; they must fight for the Scudetto. When you wear the Rossoneri shirt, you are obliged to aim for the maximum.

“Managing key moments during the season is unknown for everyone, but these first matches have shown that the Devil can stay at the top. Allegri knows how to win and how to build something. 

“If you have a solid group that follows you and works well, transmitting your tactical belief is much easier. Against Bologna and Udinese, I saw a team with clear ideas.

“Milan have one of the best midfields in Serie A. They’re on par with Napoli. Maybe Allegri is missing something in attack, but in midfield, they have already found a balance between young players and veterans.”
