The latest Armand Lauriente transfer news has confirmed why the Sassuolo winger will not be moving to Sunderland this summer.
Fabio Grosso’s side had effectively waved goodbye to their star player with his exit seemingly done. Now, the 26-year-old will remain with the newly-promoted Serie A side after the transfer collapsed.
The news will come as a huge blow to the English Premier League side. Regis Le Bris’ men have added six new additions so far after winning the EFL Championship final in May.
However, most of the new signings have been made across the middle of the pitch. Le Bris was keen to add a new attacker and believed Lauriente was the ideal candidate as the Black Cats embark on the top-flight in 2025-26.
Armand Lauriente Transfer News
After Sassuolo named their price for star winger Armand Lauriente, it looked like Sunderland were going to meet the desired fee and sign the Frenchman.
Lauriente was keen on the move after spending his entire career in France and Italy. The 26-year-old actually played under Black Cats boss Regis Le Bris whilst at Lorient.
I Neroverdi were happy to let Lauriente leave the Mapei Stadium for €20million. Le Bris convinced the board to stump up the necessary funds and the two clubs entered into negotiations.
The initial talks started positively but the deal was stopped in its tracks in the final stages. Lauriente is now expected back in to Fabio Grosso’s roster for pre-season training.
Why Did The Armand Lauriente Deal To Sunderland Break Down?
The reason why the Armand Lauriente deal to Sunderland collapsed was not due to the player encountering problems with his medical. Which many outlets had reported.
In fact, Lauriente passed with flying colors and was already in Portugal with his ‘new’ team-mates. He was expected to feature against Sporting Lisbon on Monday.
However, a huge snag appeared when it came to agreeing personal terms. Initially, Lauriente was set to sign a five-year deal earning €2.5m per-year.
The Black Cats decided to pull the plug at the last minute owing to a disagreement with the player’s agent. This left Sassuolo furious and the rift between Lauriente’s entourage and the Mackems is beyond repair.
Will Armand Lauriente Leave Sassuolo?
According to the best offshore sportsbooks, Armand Lauriente still looks destined to leave Sassuolo. Naturally, the newly-promoted Serie A side would like to keep their star man at the Mapei Stadium.
Lauriente fired I Neroverdi to the Italian second tier title last year. The 26-year-old also earned the Golden Boot award after netting 18 times in 33 appearances.
With the above in mind, interest will once again increase for Lauriente’s signature. He has wanted to test himself at a higher level for the last two years and although his Sunderland move is off, plenty of other suitors all remain interested.
