The Atalanta Champions League squad has been announced ahead of the new-look league phase with wantaway star Ademola Lookman included.
Lookman failed to secure a move away from Bergamo after admitting he wanted to leave La Dea earlier this summer. Serie A rivals Inter were the favorites for his signature but a move failed to materialize.
Even the likes of Arsenal, Atletico, Bayern and Tottenham all threw their name into the mix but ultimately, Lookman will remain at the Gewiss until at least January.
Atalanta Champions League Squad
Now that the Atalanta Champions League squad has been announced, supporters will be unsure whether Ademola Lookman’s inclusion is for the best.
Some will not have wanted him included owing to him trying to engineer a move away. Others will be glad that Lookman made the cut as he is arguably La Dea’s best player.
Nonetheless, the hat-trick hero from the 2023-24 Europa League final will be present in Europe’s elite club competition this season.
So will a whole host of other new signings made under head coach Ivan Juric. In terms of Serie A transfers this summer, only Milan and Juventus forked out more than Atalanta.
USMNT star Yunus Musah, Honest Ahanor, Odilon Kossounou, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Marco Brescianini, Lazar Samardzic, Marco Sportiello, Nikola Krstovic and Nicola Zalewski are all included.
That means all nine of La Dea’s newbies have made the final 25-man squad. As expected, the likes of Marten de Roon, Ederson and Sead Kolasinac are also in.
Atalanta squad: Carnesecchi, Rossi, Sportiello, Ahanor, Bellanova, Djimsiti, Hien, Kolasinac, Kossounou, Scalvini, Zappacosta, Bernasconi, Brescianini, De Roon, Ederson, Musah, Pasalic, Samardzic, Zalewski, De Ketelaere, Krstovic, Lookman, Maldini, Scamacca and Sulemana.
Ademola Lookman Transfer News
Although Ademola Lookman was tipped for a Premier League return, Champions League runners-up Inter were the closest to signing the Atalanta forward this summer.
Lookman announced publicly he wanted to leave and also handed in a formal transfer request. The Nigerian international confessed that he wanted to sign for the Nerazzurri.
However, La Dea rejected their offer of €45million stating that it was €5m short of the asking price. Ivan Juric’s side failed to soften their stance which in turn upset Lookman.
That resulted in the Super Eagles star staying in Bergamo. The 27-year-old is yet to feature in Serie A so far this season but could well make his first appearance of the season against Lecce on September 14.
