Cesc Fabregas Slams Serie A Over Como Fixtures and Spaniard Believes Fans Cannot ‘Experience Football’

Start

Cesc Fabregas has slammed the Serie A for moving fixtures to Australia, as Como 1907 will face AC Milan in Perth during February 2026.

Why Are Serie A Matches Being Played In Australia?

When the news broke that AC Milan and Como could face off in Perth, Australia, many fans were left furious as it would become the first European league game to be hosted abroad.

Italy’s Football Federation (FIGC), revealed on July 10th that it plans to move the fixture abroad as the San Siro will be used in the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.

The specific date is said to be Febraury 8th, which is when the Winter Olympics opening ceremony will take place at the San Siro and cause some scheduling issues.

The decision has not been finalized, although Como and Milan are reportedly keen on the idea, but both of the Italian sides will await approval from FIFA, UEFA, the AFC and the FIGC.

Como are preparing for their second-consecutive season in Serie A after finishing 10th last season and Cesc Fabregas has gone on a huge $100 million spending spree this summer.

So far, the Serie A side have signed Fellipe Jack, Alex Valle, Ignace Van der Brempt, Martin Baturina, Jesus Rodriguez, Jayden Addai, Luca Mazzitelli, Nicolas Kuhn and Maximo Perrone.

Despite this positive start to the summer, Fabregas has shown his frustrations in a recent presser, as the Spaniard is not a fan of the possible trip to Australia.

What Did Cesc Fabregas Say About Serie A Fixtures?

As previously mentioned, the Como 1907 boss is not keen on the idea of heading to Perth to compete against the Rossoneri, claiming it does not allow fans to experience football.

Fabregas said: “It’s something that’s never happened before, that says it all. People like this can’t experience football, and we have Fiorentina first and Atalanta after. It doesn’t seem like the right thing to do, but it doesn’t worry me too much at the moment; the club is dealing with it.”

The Spanish legend has been involved with Como since August 2022, where he became a shareholder before acting as the U19 manager, interim first-team manager, assistant manager and eventually landing the head role on a permanent basis in July 2024.

Como has seen a drastic improvement under the eyes of Fabregas, so much so that they are now favored to qualify for the Champions League on Serie A betting sites.

Fabregas has already began his 2025/26 pre-season, as Como beat Lille 3-2 on July 18th and prepare for clashes against Al Ahli, Real Betis and Barcelona.
