Bruno Fernandes has aimed a playful dig at David De Gea ahead of Man United’s pre-season friendly against Fiorentina on Saturday.

The Snapdragon Cup fixture has already generated over 50,000 ticket sales ahead of the Spaniard’s return to Old Trafford.

De Gea represented the Red Devils between 2011-2023. During his time at the club, De Gea racked up 545 appearances in all competitions and kept 190 clean sheets.

He was part of the roster who won the Premier League in 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson. De Gea also won the Europa League, FA Cup and two League Cups.

How Long Has David De Gea Played In Italy?

After leaving Man United upon the expiry of his contract in July 2023, David De Gea spent the entire 2023-24 season as a free agent.

He admitted he had a number of offers but none of them suited De Gea or his family. It wasn’t until August 2024 that Fiorentina – who is +500 to finish in the top four with offshore sportsbooks – signed the legendary goalkeeper.

De Gea made his debut in a 3-3 draw against Puskás Akademia in the Conference League play-off round. Most notably, the 34-year-old saved two penalties in one game against Milan in a Serie A clash in October 2024.

Overall for the Viola, De Gea has played 42 fixtures and helped the club to the Conference League semi-final. He also helped Fiorentina to seventh in the league last season.

Fiorentina Pre-Season Fixtures

Undoubtedly, Fiorentina and David De Gea’s most eagerly anticipated pre-season clash will come this Saturday against Man United.

A sell-out crowd is expected at Old Trafford ahead of De Gea’s emotional return. During the off-season, the Viola have played Grosseto, Carrarese, Leicester and Nottingham Forest.

Stefano Pioli’s side won the first two encounters before losing 2-0 to the Foxes and drawing 0-0 with Forest on Tuesday. De Gea featured against the latter at the City Ground.

  • Nottingham Forest 0-0 Fiorentina
  • Leicester 2-0 Fiorentina
  • Fiorentina 2-0 Carrarese
  • Grosseto 0-3 Fiorentina

What Did Bruno Fernandes Say To David De Gea?

Bruno Fernandes and David De Gea played together for three years at Man United. Naturally, during that time, the duo built up a solid friendship on and off the pitch.

Ahead of their reunion on Saturday, De Gea posted on X formerly Twitter, “United Road. See you Saturday,” in reply to one of United’s posts.

Fernandes explained he can’t wait to see his former team-mate. At the same time, he couldn’t help but add a playful dig towards the legendary Spanish goalkeeper.

David, my friend, I can’t wait to see you at the Snapdragon Cup. I hope you enjoy being back at Old Trafford, to see your fans, your house, your home.

“At the same time, I hope I score some goals against you and we enjoy the day together!

“See you soon, my friend.”
