Serie A’s summer window hurtles toward its close with Roma, Fiorentina and Venezia all scrambling through the final hours.
The Italian deadline falls at 19.00 UK time (20.00 CEST) on September 1, with a clear line between official signings, verbal agreements and deals still stuck in the medical room.
Clubs can still offload players to leagues whose windows remain open beyond that point, while free-agent transfers aren’t bound by the Italian cutoff at all, a mechanic that has already shaped Venezia’s business.
Confirmed Deals And The Leweling Blow For Roma
The session officially opened on June 29, and by deadline day Roma had suffered a genuine setback: their reported €35m loan-with-obligation offer to VfB Stuttgart for Jamie Leweling was rejected, with the player himself also turning down interest from Everton.
The latest indications suggest Leweling is now more likely to stay in Germany for the rest of the window rather than move anywhere before deadline day.
Roma have since pivoted to Zenit’s Luiz Henrique or Chelsea’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens as fallback targets, though neither is confirmed.
Fiorentina, meanwhile, pushed through two arrivals from England. Beto arrived at Viola Park for his medical ahead of an €18m move from Everton, while Wilfried Gnonto landed in Florence for a loan from Leeds United worth €1m with a €15m option to buy.
The Beto move is also tied to wider business elsewhere. Fiorentina’s pursuit of Joshua Zirkzee has cooled as he leans toward Juventus instead, and that shift is part of what’s freed Moise Kean to leave Fiorentina for Como.
Venezia, for their part, officially added Pasquale Mazzocchi on loan from Napoli, with an obligation to buy triggered by Serie A survival, and signed free agent Juan Jesus, the former Napoli defender, to a one-year deal.
Fees And Structures Across The Late Business
Elsewhere in Serie A, the numbers tell their own story. Omari Hutchinson’s move to Milan from Nottingham Forest is a reported €4m loan carrying a €40m option that can become an obligation, while Jonathan Rowe’s switch to Atalanta from Bologna is structured as a €5m loan plus a €30m obligation and €5m in bonuses, a package reported at roughly €40m in total.
Cagliari’s loan for Southampton’s Yukinari Sugawara carries a €5.5m option, according to multiple sources, and Lazio’s sale of Boulaye Dia to Rennes for circa €8.5m has also been reported.
In Venice, a separate report, flagged as such rather than confirmed, claims Brooke Norton-Cuffy is close to a €14m move to Venezia that would also send Richie Sagrado to Genoa, following Juan Jesus and Mazzocchi through the door.
Medicals, Verbal Deals And What’s Still Pending
Several moves remain suspended between agreement and confirmation. Robert Sanchez and Como have reportedly reached a verbal agreement for a loan from Chelsea, while Kean has been given the green light by Fiorentina to travel for a medical ahead of his switch to Como, a saga that sits alongside Roma’s own late defensive business, including reported medical complications around Oosterwolde.
Diego Carlos has also arrived for a medical at Parma, and Roma continue to work on further deadline-day business involving Feyenoord’s Givairo Read. None of these should be treated as done deals until official confirmation lands.

The clock stops for Italian clubs at 19.00 UK time on September 1, but the drama doesn’t necessarily end there.
Sales abroad remain possible wherever other leagues’ windows stay open, and free-agent switches like Juan Jesus’s can still be completed at any point.
The picture will keep shifting as medicals are completed, verbal agreements are formalised, or targets like Leweling, Norton-Cuffy and Sanchez either sign or slip away before the window shuts.
