Inter is set to keep Denzel Dumfries for at least another season after the Dutch international’s €25 million release clause officially expired on July 31.
The expiration of the clause significantly reduces the likelihood of a transfer this summer, especially for clubs looking to activate a fixed-fee deal.
Any club now interested in signing Dumfries must negotiate directly with Inter, who are reportedly seeking a fee in the region of €40–50 million.

Denzel Dumfries Release Clause Expires
According to Fabrizio Romano, the clause in Dumfries’ contract had to be triggered in a single lump-sum payment, making it a less attractive option for potential buyers.
Despite widespread transfer speculation, partly driven by Dumfries’ recent decision to join Jorge Mendes’s agency, the player was not pushing for a move.
The 29-year-old is happy in Milan and is believed to only consider leaving Inter for an elite European club.
Will Inter Still Sell Dumfries?
With the clause now expired, Inter are in a far stronger position. Dumfries remains under contract until 2028, meaning the Nerazzurri are under no pressure to sell.
Barcelona had shown interest in recent months, but with Inter now valuing their starting right-back at nearly double the expired clause, any move would require a serious offer.
Dumfries has been a key figure in Inter’s recent domestic success, offering both attacking drive and defensive reliability on the right flank.
His fitness, versatility, and experience make him one of the most valued full-backs in Serie A.
Inter Squad Planning
Inter’s decision to keep Dumfries is in line with their wider strategy to retain core players while reinforcing other positions of need.
Inter are currently trailing Napoli as the most likely to win next season’s Serie A title, according to offshore sportsbooks, so they need key players like Dumfries on board to help close the gap.
The club is still active in the transfer market, but keeping Dumfries allows Cristian Chivu to keep some continuity on the right-hand side.
