The Diego Coppola Brighton transfer has been officially completed after the Seagulls announced their new signing from Hellas Verona on June 17.
Coppola is the fourth summer acquisition for head coach Fabian Hurzeler. The Italian international joins Do-young Yoon, Tom Watson and Charalampos Kostoulas at the Amex.
Aged 21, Coppola suits the Brighton project of snaring and improving some of the finest young talent in world soccer. The former Verona man is expected to be a key figure in the English Premier League in 2025/26.
Diego Coppola Brighton Transfer Announced
In May, it was reported that English Premier League clubs were battling Juventus for Italy international Diego Coppola. Ultimately, it was Brighton who won the war.
The Seagulls announced the Coppola signing on Tuesday. Head coach Fabian Hurzeler said: “Diego is an exciting addition for the club.
“Although he is still young, he is tall, strong and mobile and he will give us a real physical presence.
“He has made some impressive progress in Serie A and deserved his call-up to the Italian national team. We look forward to helping him develop even more.”
What Is Diego Coppola’s Style Of Play?
Standing at 6ft 4in, Diego Coppola is a central defender who can comfortably play in a back three or four. Not only is Coppola a physical presence who typically dominates aerial duels, he is very quick and athletic for his size.
The 21-year-old has earned rave reviews for his mature displays and extensive passing abilities. Coppola also demonstrates strong tactical awareness which made him one of Hellas Verona’s standout players.
It’s perhaps too early to compare Coppola to Azzurri greats such as Fabio Cannavaro and Leonardo Bonucci. However, if he continues to flourish for club and country, he could become one of the finest defenders in the world.
Coppola will need to get used to the pace and rigours of the English top-flight. But as many Brighton signings have proved in recent years, the right guidance and determination should help him succeed at the Amex.
How Much Did Diego Coppola Cost Brighton?
According to Alfredo Pedulla, Diego Coppola cost Brighton approximately €12million. Which in turn could prove to be a bargain if he replicates his Serie A form in England.
Coppola penned a five-year deal which will run until the summer transfer window in 2030. It’s understood that Hellas Verona have also inserted a sell-on clause which could see them cash in again if the promising defender hits the heights that are expected of him.
Meanwhile, the safest online betting sites for US players indicate that the Seagulls and Verona will still be heavily active over the next two months of the transfer window.
