Fikayo Tomori Cools Down Rumors Over Premier League Return After Claiming He Has Ended ‘English Stereotype’
AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori believes he has helped end the stereotype over Englishmen playing abroad and silenced the noise over a Premier League return.

Fikayo Tomori has cooled down rumors over a Premier League return as the AC Milan star believes he has ended a stereotype about English players.
Fikayo Tomori Ends Stereotype Over English Players
The Rossoneri defender has become a household name in Serie A since joining Milan in July 2021, making 194 appearances and winning the Scudetto in his opening campaign.
Tomori has been a critical player for the Rossoneri once again this season, making 12 starts in Serie A and earning the trust of Massimiliano Allegri.
The Englishman was unable to guide his side to the Supercoppa Italiana final in Milan’s latest clash, as Allegri’s side were beaten 2-0 by Napoli on December 18th.
Antonio Conte’s men proved too strong for the Rossoneri and the Partenopei will now face Bologna on December 22nd, as Vincenzo Italiano pleads with his side to secure silverware.
As for Tomori, attention will be diverted right back to Serie A action and the 28-year-old will be looking to maintain his strong level of performance outside of England.
For years, England internationals have struggled to find success outside of the Premier League and Tomori believed that he is now a part of a generation that is bringing an end to this stereotype.
Tomori said: “It’s a different way of life, but the biggest difference is how we train. In Italy it’s a lot more focus-based in terms of how we’ll play, whereas in England training can be more physical and intense.
“When I was growing up there was a stereotype that English players didn’t go abroad, but there’s quite a few now, which shows we can go abroad and adapt to a different way of living too.”
This devotion to succeeding outside of England could play an interesting part in Tomori’s future, as the AC Milan star has been linked with a move back to the Premier League.
Premier League Sides Monitor Fikayo Tomori
Despite his reputation and links with Chelsea, Tomori has made just 17 appearances in the Premier League after spending the majority of his time in England in the lower leagues.
The 28-year-old was involved during Frank Lampard’s opening spell as Chelsea manager in 2019/20, but failed to become a regular at Stamford Bridge.
However, this could be coming to an end in 2026 after attracting interest from a host of Premier League sides including Nottingham Forest, Tottenham and Crystal Palace.
Following their defeat in Supercoppa Italiana, AC Milan’s January transfer window plans could be in-line for some major changes.
Tomori’s future is secure until June 2027, but the defender may be keen on a move back to England as he looks to book a place at the 2026 World Cup.
The 28-year-old said: “The way he’s spoken about it is that it’s difficult because there’s so many players in that position, and I get it because you have players like John Stones, Marc Guehi, Dan Burn and Ezri Konsa.
“But the World Cup is still a dream and I’m working towards that.”
Milan are yet to receive a formal bid for the Englishman, but any interested party would need to make an offer that exceeds €20million.
