Fiorentina Can Still Save Their Serie A Season – Here’s Why

Fiorentina have endured a terrible Serie A season so far, but there are signs that they can bounce back in the second half of the campaign.
Fiorentina could build momentum amid forgiving festive fixture list
There wasn’t much enthusiasm ahead of Fiorentina’s Serie A meeting with Udinese on December 21.
Considering the Viola were yet to pick up a single league win all season, this was not particularly surprising.
However, not only did Fiorentina claim their first Serie A victory of 2025/26, but they did it resoundingly, winning 5-1.
They remain bottom of Serie A, but the win lifted them to nine points from 16 matches, keeping survival within reach.
The turnaround followed a club-ordered training retreat and media silence after the Verona defeat, measures designed to reset focus.
Paolo Vanoli was appointed on November 7 after Stefano Pioli’s dismissal, inheriting a side without a league win and low confidence.
Vanoli has focused on going back to basics and keeping things relatively simple, with the players enjoying clearer roles and moving the ball quicker.
The Udinese match showed the upside, with Moise Kean scoring twice and Albert Gudmundsson also among the goals in a fluent display.
The fixture list offers big opportunities for Fiorentina to claw back more points and build momentum.
They face struggling Parma away on December 27, then mid-table Cremonese at home on January 4, before eight-placed Lazio three days later.
With just nine points separating 20th from 10th in the standings, a short winning run could fire Fiorentina up the table.
Fabio Paratici would boost Fiorentina’s January transfer window
Fiorentina are starting to look more settled, with Vanoli leaning harder on his core players and David de Gea offering calm behind a back line still finding consistency.
In midfield, Nicolo Fagioli has begun to dictate the tempo more often, and his link-up with Moise Kean certainly seems to be improving.
Out wide, Dodo and Fabiano Parisi provide width and attack, while Albert Gudmundsson can create and score in equal measure.
Admittedly, there will be some challenges, with Marin Pongracic and Luca Ranieri unable to feature against Parma due to suspension.
January business is also on the agenda, with Italian media pointing to a centre-back, a midfielder and a wide attacking option as priorities.
Speculation involving Fabio Paratici and Fiorentina is intensifying too, and his arrival would likely influence a wider reshuffle and transfer strategy.
Radu Dragusin is on Fiorentina’s radar and Paratici – who has already signed the Romanian twice – could play a big role in signing him if the Italian joins.
In Europe, Fiorentina ended the Conference League league phase in 15th and will go into February’s play-offs seeded.
That extra fixture list could help hone the Viola’s match sharpness, but Vanoli will have to be mindful of the extra workload and the risk of injuries and suspension.
Nevertheless, Fiorentina’s big win could well prove a turning point of the season.
The opening of the January transfer window also means Fiorentina can sign reinforcements, and Paratici is a great shout to put together a great transfer strategy.
All things considered, there’s a good chance the second half of the campaign will be brighter for Fiorentina.
