The latest Fiorentina transfer news suggests Albert Gudmundsson’s option to buy won’t be taken up, with the club instead planning to rival Parma for Inter Milan’s Sebastiano Esposito.
Is Albert Gudmudsson Staying at Fiorentina?
Despite enjoying fleeting moments in a season-long loan at Fiorentina, the club are, by all accounts, unwilling to take up the buy option to make Albert Gudmundsson’s move from Genoa permanent.
The Iceland international racked up eight goals in 33 appearances, which is a solid return given just 42 percent of his minutes came as a starter.
His loan from Genoa was an astute piece of business from La Viola, who added a sprinkle of goals off the bench, with Moise Kean and Lucas Beltran typically preferred as the strike partnership.
However, it appears a permanent transfer remains unlikely, with Fiorentina prepared to enter the market in order to find a more future-proof option.
Fiorentina Transfer News: Sebastiano Esposito Appreciated
Inter Milan starlet, Sebastiano Esposito, is viewed as the ideal candidate to replace Gudmundsson, but also to potentially lead the line as the starting striker in the future.
His future at Inter remains an interesting talking point. Internally, many feel promoting a player who has deep rooted tied to the Nerazzurri should be the priority. For reference, Esposito has been passed around by seven different clubs on various loan spells since breaking through as a teenager in 2019.
Despite Empoli’s relegation to Serie B last season, he managed to end the campaign with a commendable eight goals and one assist, despite the club ranking all the way down in 16th for goals scored.
He has featured for Inter during their Club World Cup campaign in the United States, even being named in the starting 11 in their opening game, but his role at the tournament likely comes out of necessity to rest key starters after a long season.
Inter are reportedly willing to listen to offers of around $14 million, with Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez making it difficult to break into the first team.
It is also worth noting that Fiorentina continue to face the prospect of losing top scorer Moise Kean, who is linked with a move to Arsenal.
Shoring up their striking options would therefore become far more pressing, and Esposito, who is also strongly linked with Parma, has the league know-how to step in immediately.
The returning Stefano Piolo will be forced to find solutions to Fiorentina’s striking options, with cash out betting sites predicting them to be a top-eight side next season.
