Gianluca Pagliuca Proven Right On Guglielmo Vicario As Inter Handed Major Warning

Inter legend Gianluca Pagliuca has very quickly been proven right on Guglielmo Vicario amid interest in the Tottenham goalkeeper.

Speaking before Sunday’s trip to Nottingham Forest, Pagliuca said he didn’t feel Vicario was a player of the highest level.
“He’s a very good goalkeeper,” began Pagliuca, as per L’Interista.
“The second-choice player for our national team, he has experience in Italy and the Premier League. Not a little.
However, Pagliuca then said: “But… I don’t see him as a top-class player yet.
“I repeat, he’s already experienced because he’s been between the posts for a while and he’s 29, but he doesn’t strike me as a top player.”
Within 24 hours, Vicario endured another dismal afternoon as Spurs were beaten 3-0 at the City Ground.
The opener arrived after 28 minutes when Vicario’s loose pass put Archie Gray under pressure near his own area.
Ibrahim Sangare claimed possession and squared for Callum Hudson-Odoi, who finished into an empty net.
Five minutes into the second half, Hudson-Odoi delivered from the left and the ball looped over Vicario.
The goalkeeper hesitated between claiming and holding his line, ending up stranded as the cross sailed in.
Forest made it three late on through Sangare’s powerful strike, sealing an abysmal result for Thomas Frank’s side.
And Vicario earned criticism during and after the game.
Tottenham fans losing patience with Guglielmo Vicario
Vicario’s display followed last month’s defeat to Fulham, when he was booed by sections of Tottenham supporters at home.
After Forest, Spurs fans vented about Vicario online, with several urging Inter to “take him off our hands” when January arrives.
Pundit Jamie Carragher criticised Vicario’s reaction to goals, saying the goalkeeper too often points elsewhere instead of owning mistakes.
The Serie A giants’ interest is a talking point as they plan ahead, with Inter seeking Yann Sommer’s successor.
Pagliuca’s wording now reads like a warning label. Vicario has tools, but elite reliability and authority still look unproven.
If Inter do move for him, they would really need to think about price and structure – because top-class keepers don’t come with weekly concerns.
