Gianluigi Donnarumma Says He Is Honored To Win His Second Men’s Yashin Trophy

Gianluigi Donnarumma said that he was ‘honored’ to be named as the recipient of the 2025 Men’s Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony on September 22. 

Donnarumma helped former club PSG to a historic treble which included a maiden Champions League success. The Italy captain kept a total of 17 clean sheets from 47 appearances.

The 26-year-old quit Paris for Manchester City last month and was quick to praise both sides after he won the award for the second time in his career. Donnarumma also collected the Yashin Trophy in 2021.

Gianluigi Donnarumma Wins The 2025 Men’s Yashin Trophy

Having been recognized as the world’s greatest goalkeeper in 2025, Gianluigi Donnarumma shared his happiness when collecting the award on stage at the Theatre du Chatelet, Paris.

“I’m honored to receive this award. I’m so happy with my performances from last season. We achieved incredible results.

“I want to thank the team and my ex-teammates. If I’m here tonight, it’s also thanks to them. We had a formidable season.”

Donnarumma also came 9th in the Ballon d’Or listings. Former team-mate Ousmane Dembele picked up the prestigious award with Lamine Yamal and Vitinha completing the top three.

Gianluigi Donnarumma’s Manchester City Transfer

In the summer, rumors circulated that goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma could return to Milan. Even the likes of Inter and Manchester United were also keen but ultimately, Pep Guardiola landed his signature.

Donnarumma explained how the Manchester City boss played a key role in bringing him to the Etihad Stadium on transfer deadline day.

“My only choice was to come here, so I am happy to be here at City and be part of this fantastic team. Before the summer I knew that City were very interested in me, the relationship strengthened after the Club World Cup, Donnarumma explained.

“I knew the coach was pushing for my arrival here, everyone wanted me here, it gave me such pride to see such a demonstration of affection. I didn’t hesitate to come here with great joy and enthusiasm.”

What Trophies Has Gianluigi Donnarumma Won?

Widely considered as the world’s best goalkeeper over the last five years, Gianluigi Donnarumma has a number of trophies in his cabinet to further strengthen those claims.

At club level, the Azzurri star has won a total 11 titles. They include four Ligue 1 successes as well as the Champions League in 2024-25. He also won Euro 2020 with Italy.

Individually, Donnarumma has won 17 different awards which include Serie A Team of the Year (2), Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year (2) and European Championship Team of the Tournament (2020).

Now, the 6ft 5in shotstopper has two Yashin Trophies to his name. However, he will be aiming for the main Ballon d’Or prize in the coming years.

Something of which has only ever been won once by a goalkeeper before. The legendary Russian star Lev Yashin did so in 1963 and also received a further nine nominations.
