Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is the winner of the The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper 2025 award.

The Manchester City stopper saw off competition from the likes of Yann Sommer, Alisson Becker, Thibaut Courtois, Emiliano Martinez and Manuel Neuer to win the award.
Donnarumma was honoured on Tuesday ahead of the end-of-year gala at the Fairmont Katara Hall in Doha, Qatar.
The Azzurri captain played a significant role in Paris Saint-Germain’s first Champions League triumph before joining the English giants this summer.
Donnarumma expressed his delight at winning the award as he thanked all those who voted for him.
The former Milan keeper then pledged to do all he can to get Man City back to trophy-winning ways.
“It is a great honour to win this prestigious award and I would like to thank everybody that voted for me,” he told the City media team.
“I feel extremely proud to have been named as the best in the world. And ahead of such wonderful goalkeepers too who I have great respect and admiration for.

“It was an incredible year, one that will live long in my memory. And it’s touching to be recognised for my role in the success achieved over that period.
“I will truly appreciate this acknowledgement and look ahead now to achieving more success with my new club Manchester City.”
The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper 2025 award is just the latest accolade Donnarumma has won.
Donnarumma made the 2025 FIFPRO Men’s World XI in November and also lifted the 2025 Yashin Trophy at September’s Ballon d’Or awards ceremony.
The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper nominees were chosen by a panel of experts, with Donnarumma selected as winner by an international jury.
It comprised men’s national team coaches, men’s national team captains, football journalists and fans who voted on FIFA’s official website.
This year’s qualifying period fell between August 11, 2024 to August 2, 2025.
The career first Donnarumma will desperately hope to achieve in 2026
It’s amazing to think that Donnarumma is just 26 years of age, considering how long he has been at the top.
He has over 500 competitive senior appearances to his name for clubs and country.
Donnarumma has also won a multitude of trophies, including the Champions League and Euro 2020.
And though he had a wobble against Real Madrid last week, he was incredibly solid in the ensuing win over Crystal Palace.
However, there is one glaring omission from Donnarumma’s record that he will be desperate to put right in 2026.
Donnarumma made his Italy debut in 2016, and the Azzurri haven’t played in a World Cup since 2014.
Italy have missed two World Cups in a row. Now, the playoffs once again stand between them and a place at the international top table.
With that in mind, there’s a lot at stake for the Azzurri in March.
