The Italian soccer icon has been heavily linked with a move into management, however Chiellini has now revealed his true ambitions going forward.

Chiellini is currently acting as the Director of Football Strategy at Juventus, working behind the scenes at the Bianconeri.

During his playing career, Chiellini made 561 appearances for Juve, winning nine Serie A titles, five Coppa Italias, five Supercoppa Italianas and a Serie B title – while also lifting the European Championship with Italy in 2021.

This iconic career helped Chiellini obtain a place on the Juventus board and earn a promotion within a year, as the 41-year-old was initially appointed as the Head of Football Institutional Relations.

Working his way up the Juventus board appears to be Chiellini’s primary objective, as the Italian denied any talks over a career in coaching.

Chiellini said: “I definitely won’t become a coach or return to playing. What will happen is unpredictable, but this is the area that fascinates me the most and has always interested me.

“I’ve developed it through my studies and in the last years of my career. Football is my world, and management is my favorite post retirement career path.”

Currently, Chiellini plays a huge part in the youth set-up at Juventus and helping academy players make their way into the first team.

The former Azzurri international does not play a role in any transfers, although Chiellini may have his thoughts on Nicolas Gonzalez’s situation with Atletico Madrid.

Chiellini Denies Khephren Thuram Exit

Although Chiellini does not have a direct role in the transfer activity at Juventus, he is still in contact with players over their future at the club.

Khephren Thuram has been linked with a move from the Bianconeri after failing to impress Luciano Spalletti, but Chiellini has denied any rumors of a January exit.

Chiellini said: “One thing is certain: Thuram is and will remain a Juventus player. We do not want to deprive ourselves of him; on the contrary, we want to build the future with him.”

The Bianconeri have made the central midfield position a priority, as Juventus target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and monitoring other star names around Europe.

Spalletti’s side currently sit fifth in Serie A and the Juventus manager will be well aware that his future in Turin relies on Champions League qualification.

Keeping a player of Thuram’s quality and adding further quality in January could be crucial for Juventus, while also securing Spalletti and Chiellini’s future.
