Graham Potter Looks Towards Serie A As West Ham Prepare To Sack Englishman After Disastrous Tenure

Graham Potter could be heading to Serie A as West Ham are reportedly ready to sack the Englishman following a disastrous spell in East London.

It is safe to say that Graham Potter’s spell as West Ham manager has failed to meet expectations, as the former Chelsea boss continues to struggle in East London.

Potter took the reins at West Ham in January 2025 after Julen Lopetegui was made surplus to requirements following a run of poor results, however, the former Brighton boss has failed to raise the standards so far.

The 50-year-old was in charge of 18 Premier League matches last season, picking up five wins, five draws and eight defeats, as the Hammers finished 14th.

This poor form in England’s top-flight has transcended into the 2025/26 season, with West Ham losing four of their opening five league matches and sitting 19th with just three-points.

Supporters have started to turn on the former Chelsea boss, as the Hammers boast the worst defensive record in the Premier League so far after conceding 13 goals in five matches.

The Englishman’s time in East London appears to be all-but over and West Ham are reportedly looking into possible candidates to take the reins for the remainder of this season.

Jose Mourinho had been linked with the head job at the London Stadium, but the ‘Special One’ has returned to his home nation to take the reins at Benfica – as Mourinho prepares to face multiple Serie A sides in the Champions League.

Other possible replacements include Nuno Espirito Santo after his surprise dismissal from Nottingham Forest, Sean Dyche who is looking to make a return to management and Slaven Bilic – who managed the Hammers from June 2015 to November 2017.

With a host of coaches being linked with the West Ham job, Graham Potter may be looking towards alternative options and the Englishman could be heading to Serie A.

Could Graham Potter Manage In Serie A?

Potter made his mark as a professional manager during his spell with the Swedish side, Ostersunds, holding the reins between January 2011 and June 2018.

During his time in Sweden, the 50-year-old achieved three promotions to reach the top division, Allsvenskan, while also picking up the Swedish Cup and secured Europa League qualification for the first time in the clubs’ history.

The former Brighton boss earned a victory over Arsenal at the Emirates in the Europa League Ro16 play-off, but were eliminated over two-legs by the Gunners.

Following a successful spell in Sweden, Potter headed to the United Kingdom in July 2018 to become manager at Swansea, where he impressed enough to earn a Premier League role with Brighton.

Potter managed 134 matches on the South Coast, before securing his biggest job to date with Chelsea in September 2022 – but his time at Stamford Bridge was far from successful.

In his 22 Premier League matches as Chelsea boss, Potter won just seven matches and was sacked in April 2023, causing the Brit to take almost two-years away before taking the job at West Ham.

Now, the 50-year-old’s reputation has taken a big hit after failing with the Hammers and Chelsea, but Potter’s spells in Sweden and Brighton could still persuade clubs to give him another chance.

One side that may be looking for a new manager is Serie A side, Genoa, as supporters are beginning to push for the sacking of Patrick Vieira after a poor start to the season.

After four league matches, Genoa have accumulated just two points and are yet to win a match in Serie A – seeing the Rossoblu drop down to 16th in the table.

Multiple names have been tipped to take the reins at Genoa, with Luciano Spalletti eyeing a return to management, but the Italian may be looking for a bigger name in Serie A.

A move to Genoa could be exactly why Graham Potter needs, as expectations would be lower and the 50-year-old would be away from the English media’s scope.

There have been no direct talks between Potter and Genoa, however, the Englishman’s time with West Ham could be over in the coming days and he may be looking for a new venture.
