Inter Milan Hailed As ‘Elite Club’ After Setting New Champions League Record – Can They Go All The Way This Season?

Inter Milan set a new Champions League record after they beat Kairat Almaty 2-1 at the San Siro on matchday 4.  

Goals from Lautaro Martinez and Carlos Augusto saw Inter claim all three points which means they are currently third in the standings.

Although it wasn’t the best performance from Cristian Chivu’s side, the Romanian head coach knows that securing qualification as quickly as possible is the main priority.

Inter Milan Set New Champions League Record

After purchasing the San Siro earlier in the day, a celebratory Inter Milan side helped themselves to a new record with the 2-1 win over Kairat Almaty.

The victory over the Kazakhstan side means Inter have won their opening four matches in the Champions League/European Cup for the first time in their history.

Star man Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time. Kairat equalized via Ofri Arad – which was the first goal the Nerazzurri conceded in the competition this season – before Carlos Augusto won it with 67 minutes gone.

When the Champions League fixtures were confirmed in August, Inter Milan were arguably given the toughest games compared to the rest of Italy’s representatives.

Nonetheless, their four game winning streak has made them one of the most feared sides in Europe. Arsenal and Bayern are the only other sides who can boast a 100% win record so far.

That led to a number of supporters sharing their praise online. One suggested that Inter are an “elite club.” Another fan proclaimed: “Perfect start for Inter, the final already beckons.”

Inter Milan’s Remaining Champions League Fixtures

Owing to this season’s stats and recent Champions League form, Inter Milan are the most likely Serie A side to go the furthest in the competition.

Although they have only played teams in pots 3 and 4 so far, bigger tests await last season’s runners-up. They have away trips to Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund to navigate.

On home soil, English Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool will provide the sternest tests. However, approximately 4-5 points is all that should be required to ensure safe passage to the last 16.

Are Inter Milan Better Than Arsenal And Bayern Munich?

Only time will tell if Inter Milan is better than Arsenal. The two European heavyweights lock horns on matchday 8. As it stands, the Gunners are the only side yet to concede and also boast a 100% win record.

Bayern Munich have an unblemished record, too. They have beaten holders PSG and FIFA Club World Cup champions Chelsea so far.

In fact, the Bundesliga giants have won all 16 games across all competitions this season. Therefore, it could be argued that the Premier League leaders and Bundesliga winners are marginally better than Inter right now.

However, the Nerazzurri are looking like a formidable force and did beat both sides on their way to the 2024-25 final. Something of which will hold them in good stead this term.

Can Inter Win The Champions League?

In theory, there is no reason why Inter Milan can’t win the 2025-26 Champions League. The Nerazzurri finished as runners-up in 2023 and last term.

They certainly have it in them to beat the very best teams across the continent. Especially with the likes of Lautaro Martinez, Denzel Dumfries and Hakan Calhanoglu in their ranks.

Cristian Chivu’s lack of experience could be considered the only blemish to their chances but the Romanian has performed mightily well so far.

In the coming months, he will get to test himself against the very best the competition has to offer. But for now, Inter can bask in their early-season glory knowing full well that 2026 could be their year.
