Inter Milan Star To Turn Down Renewed Contract In Favor Of Reuniting With Simone Inzaghi In Saudi Arabia
Former Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi is pushing to sign Stefan de Vrij before the January window ends.
Stefan de Vrij is ready to turn down a new contract with Inter Milan to reunite with Simone Inzaghi in Saudi Arabia.
Stefan De Vrij Pushes For Saudi Arabia Move
The Dutchman has been targeted by former Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi as the Al Hilal manager looks to bring in some European stars this January.
De Vrij has fallen out-of-favor under Cristian Chivu this season, as the 33-year-old has made just three appearances in Serie A and is out of contract in June 2026.
There had been talks over a new deal going into the January window, as Inter were hoping to receive a fee for the Dutch defender as opposed to losing him for free.
However, de Vrij is now looking to make an immediate exit from the Nerazzurri after a growing interest from Saudi Arabia and a possible reunion with Simone Inzaghi.
The Dutch international has made 287 appearances for Inter since signing in July 2018 and 155 of these came under the management of Simone Inzaghi.
During their time together at the San Siro, Inter won a Serie A title, two Coppa Italias and three Supercoppa Italianas, highlighting Inzaghi’s push to bring de Vrij to Saudi Arabia.
Interestingly, Inter are targeting Ruben Neves and the Al Hilal midfielder could be used in some form of negotiations – despite both players facing expiring contracts this year.
The Nerazzurri are also cautious over selling a defender this January after missing out on Joao Cancelo and Chivu will be unwilling to sell de Vrij without bringing in a suitable replacement.
Inter Milan Search For New Defender
Cristian Chivu appeared to have completed a major coup by bringing Joao Cancelo back to Milan, but the Portuguese defender turned down the opportunity and agreed a move back to Barcelona instead.
This search for a defender has intensified after Denzel Dumfries’ recent injury issues, alongside concerns over Manuel Akanji being recalled by Manchester City due to an injury crisis.
The Nerazzurri have already added a host of star names to their wish-list, including a loan move for Fiorentina full-back Dodo – which has intrigued the Brazilian.
Fiorentina are reportedly unwilling to sell their star defender in January, but Inter are ready to offer a potential swap deal or a six-month loan.
One player that could be utilized in a swap is Stefan de Vrij, which could see the Dutchman join Fiorentina for the rest of the season and then complete a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer.
