The Galatasaray President has provided a huge update over a potential move for Inter Milan star, Hakan Calhanoglu, who could be on his way out of Italy this summer.
Are Inter Milan Selling Hakan Calhanoglu?
Hakan Calhanoglu has been a topic of debate in the summer transfer window, as the Turkish international has been linked with a move away from the San Siro.
Since joining the Italian side in July 2021, the 31-year-old has made 182 appearances and contributed to 70 goals (38G + 32A), winning a Serie A title and two Coppa Italia trophies.
During the 2024/25 campaign, Calhanoglu made 47 appearances across all competitions and is still a valuable member of this Inter Milan side – but this could change after Simone Inzaghi’s departure.
Cristian Chivu has been appointed as the new Inter Milan boss, meaning no player has a cemented place in the squad and there could be a major revamp in Milan this summer.
Calhanoglu may be one of these players to move on in the coming weeks and his deal in Milan is set to expire in June 2027, meaning any deal would require a fair transfer fee.
Inter have reportedly started their search for a central midfielder and identified Nicolo Rovella as a possible replacement for Calhanoglu if he departs in this current transfer window.
Will Galatasaray Sign Calhanoglu?
If the Turkish midfielder does decide to move on this summer, then the most likely outcome appears to be a return to his home nation by joining Galatasaray.
The Super Lig side are coming off a very successful 2024/25 campaign, winning the league and cup double in Turkey, while also winning their last 11 games across all competitions.
Victor Osimhen played a vital role in the teams’ success, but the Nigerian was only on loan for the season and the striker has not made a decision on his future this summer.
The Turkish side are the favorites to land the Napoli striker on Serie A betting sites, however, if they fail to land the Nigeria international then a new talisman will need to be identified.
Galatasaray president, Dursun Ozbek, has provided a huge update on the situation involving Hakan Calhanoglu and claimed he has been in touch with the Inter Milan player.
Ozbek said: “He’s our pride. The captain of the national team, a top player.Every team would like to have him in their squad. But my meeting with him was not related to a transfer.
“I was with a friend. We were in a group. And they were talking on the phone with Hakan. They said, ‘The President of Galatasaray is here with me, he wants to say hello.’
“So we said hello to each other. He said that he’s been a Galatasaray fan since he was a child. I asked him how he was doing, and complimented him on his performances, and on the fact that he represents us in Europe.
“I wished him the best. But the meeting was represented by the media as though it were a transfer market meeting.”
