Juventus summer signing Jonathan David has received some heavy backlash after selecting Inter Milan icon, Samuel Eto’o, as his biggest role model.
What Did Jonathan David Say About Samuel Eto’o?
The Canadian international signed for Juventus as a free agent during the summer after his deal with Ligue 1 side, Lille, came to an end in June.
During his time in France David became a cult hero at Lille, contributing to 139 goals in 232 appearances (109G + 30A) picking up a Ligue 1 title and Trophee des Champions.
His performances have also cemented a place in the Canadian national team, winning the Gold Cup golden boot in 2018/19 and scoring 36 goals in 67 appearances.
Boasting such a prolific nature in front of goal is one of David’s biggest qualities and the Canadian is already one of the favorites to win the Serie A golden boot on offshore betting sites.
The 25-year-old has recently commented on his love for scoring goals and David may have ruffled some Juventus fan feathers after selecting Inter icon, Samuel Eto’o as a role model.
David said: “I’m very competitive and, like all strikers, I love scoring goals; that’s what this game is about I had many role models as a kid. Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o. They were very different from each other, but I liked their style.”
Is Jonathan David Going To Start At Juventus?
Following his move to Turin, many expect the Canadian striker to lead the line under Igor Tudor, especially with Dusan Vlahovic’s exit becoming more and more likely.
The Serbian striker has been linked with a move away from the Italian side for the entirety of this transfer window, as he continues to struggle with injury.
Manchester United and AC Milan had been rumored to make a move for the 25-year-old, however, the Red Devils appear to be closing in on Benjamin Sesko and the Rossoneri are monitoring Ollie Watkins’ situation at Aston Villa.
This could see Vlahovic complete a last minute move elsewhere and Juventus are also looking into another striker option, as Igor Tudor pushes for a move for Randal Kolo Muani.
The Frenchman enjoyed a successful loan spell in Italy last season and Jonathan David has revealed that he does not expect to start every game for the Bianconeri next season.
David said: “It’s a great feeling to be part of a team like Juventus. The first week went very well and my teammates helped me a lot. Speaking with the management was important for me. I also talked to my teammates and there was mutual interest in joining Juventus.
“I’ve tried to be consistent over the past few years. I know Serie A is different, more tactical and defensive, but there are challenges for everyone. I think it’s possible. I just have to work hard. Why not?
“We are working on tactics, it will depend on the coach, but right now I’m playing as a center forward. There’s never a guarantee to be a starter, so you’ve got to play and do your job. I don’t expect to start every game, but I’ll do my best.”
