Gleison Bremer is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines after a recent knee surgery and Juventus are reportedly monitoring multiple defenders across Europe.

The Brazilian international received some crushing news in the opening stages of October, suffering a major knee injury and undergoing surgery on October 14th.

Due to the severity of the operation, the Juventus captain is set to miss a large chunk of the 2025/26 season and could even keep him out of the 2026 World Cup.

Bremer suffering another major injury will set off huge alarm bells in the Juventus camp, as the 28-year-old missed 45 matches with an ACL tear last season.

The Brazilian has already missed two matches for Juve this season and is expected to be out until 2026, which means Igor Tudor may be looking for a replacement in January.

The Bianconeri did receive some positive news to help distract from Bremer’s issues, as Fabio Miretti has returned from injury and could feature before October comes to an end.

Miretti’s return will not fill the void that has been left by Bremer’s recent surgery and the Bianconeri will need to act fast, as they continue to battle on multiple fronts.

Juve kicked-off their Serie A campaign with three consecutive wins, but have seen a drop in performance in recent weeks, drawing their last four matches across all competitions.

Bremer’s absence has coincided with these stalemates, meaning Juventus will be looking at the elite-level defenders across Europe in 2026.

Who Could Juventus Sign To Replace Bremer?

Cristian Romero (Tottenham)

The Tottenham Hotspur defender was rumored with a move away from North London after Ange Postecoglou parted ways with the club in June of this year.

However, the Argentinian decided to stay with the Lilywhites and recently agreed a new deal under Thomas Frank, signing a four-year extension in August.

Despite this, Romero has some unfinished business with Juventus, as the Argentine signed for the Bianconeri in July 2019 and failed to make a single appearance for the club.

During his time with Juve, Romero went out on loan to Genoa and Atalanta, before completing a permanent move to La Dea in August 2021 and leaving Italy completely in August 2022.

Romero has gone on to make 133 appearances for Spurs, helping the Premier League side end their 15-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League last season.

Giorgio Scalvini (Atalanta)

Bringing in a player from a fellow Serie A side could prove very difficult, as shown by Inter’s failed attempt to sign Ademola Lookman from Atalanta in the summer.

However, Giorgio Scalvini has proven to be one of the brightest prospects in the central defender market and would be a major coup for the Bianconeri.

The 21-year-old has already made 111 appearances for Atalanta, winning the Europa League in 2024 and is closing in on his 100th appearance in Italy’s top division.

Scalvini is set to make the trip to the 2026 World Cup for the Italian national team, provided the Azzurri secure a place in the competition through the play-offs.

Ronald Araujo (Barcelona)

Juventus were heavily linked with Ronald Araujo in the 2025 summer transfer window, as the Bianconeri had concerns over Bremer’s recovery from an ACL tear.

These concerns have now come to fruition and Juventus could reignite their interest in the Barcelona defender, especially after the Uruguayan defender was benched for Barca’s Champions League clash against PSG.

Despite sitting on the bench for this major European tie, Araujo has started in Barcelona’s last three La Liga matches, while also donning the captain’s armband.

Araujo has six-years remaining on his deal in Spain and Juventus would need to make a huge offer to tempt the Spanish side into a sale – with Barcelona looking for around €65 million.

Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich)

Another player that has previous experience in Serie A is Bayern Munich defender, Kim Min-Jae, as the South Korean international made 45 appearances for Napoli during their title-winning season in 2022/23.

The 28-year-old has recently been moved with a move away from Bayern after making just two appearances in the Bundesliga this season and falling out-of-favor under Vincent Kompany.

Kim Min-jae’s deal with the Bundesliga champions expires in June 2028, meaning Juventus would need to offer a fair sum for the South Korean – but could use his lack of playing time in negotiations.

Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)

Marc Guehi was one of the biggest stories in the summer transfer window, after his agreed move to Liverpool collapsed on deadline day following a disagreement between Crystal Palace and the Reds.

The English international has become a vital part of the Eagles side, captaining Palace to an FA Cup trophy last season and cementing a place in the England national side.

Guehi’s contract with Crystal Palace is set to come to an end in June 2026 and the young defender is expect to leave Selhurst Park on a free next summer.

Liverpool are still in pole position to sign the 25-year-old ahead of next season, but Juventus could be stiff competition if they keep their place in the Champions League.
