Weston McKennie Pushes For MLS Move As USMNT Star Remains Unsettled At Juventus

Weston McKennie is reportedly pushing for a move to the MLS in 2026 as the USMNT is unlikely to renew his current deal with Juventus.

Will Weston McKennie Sign New Juventus Contract?

The American international will be out of contract in Turin at the end of the 2025/26 season and talks over a new deal have reportedly stalled as McKennie considers his future in soccer.

After working through the ranks in Dallas, McKennie signed for Schalke O4 in July 2017 and followed a similar path to the likes of Christian Pulisic by moving to Europe as a teenager.

McKennie went on to impress during his time in Germany, making 91 appearances for the now Bundesliga II side and went on to join Juventus on loan in September 2020.

The USMNT star managed to impress enough during his opening spell in Turin, as Juventus won Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana – meaning the Bianconeri signed McKennie permanently in July 2021.

Since then, his time with the Old Lady has been full of ups and downs, as McKennie left Turin to join Leeds on loan during the January window in 2022/23.

Now, McKennie is somewhat of an outsider in the Juventus ranks and is not a regular started under Igor Tudor, with Kenan Yildiz currently acting as the poster boy in Turin.

The Turkish international is set to receive a brand new deal at Juve and this could push McKennie further down the pecking order, as spots in the starting lineup continue to decrease.

Despite starting in both of Juventus’ Champions League matches so far, McKennie has started just two Serie A matches this season and has failed to impress the new Juve manager.

With his deal coming to a close and talks over a renewed contract stalling, McKennie is now looking towards a new home and could be heading back to the United States.

Will Weston McKennie Go To MLS?

McKennie has become a regular member of the USMNT after an impressive spell in Europe, but the Juventus midfielder has never played in the United States’ leading soccer division.

The Juventus midfielder made his international debut at 17-years-old in November 2017 and has gone on to accumulate 61 caps for his national team.

During the summer, McKennie caused some controversy alongside the likes of Pulisic and Tyler Adams, as they refused to compete at the Gold Cup.

However, this allowed multiple stars from the MLS to compete for the USMNT and Diego Luna was one man that stood out, attracting interest from AC Milan.

Luna is symbolic of the rise in quality for Major League Soccer in recent years and McKennie may be looking at this recent surge as a reason to move away from Europe.

Another factor is the 2026 World Cup, as the tournament is set to fall at the same time as McKennie’s contract expiration with Juventus and returning to the United States could play a part in his decision.

A specific destination is yet to be revealed, but as McKennie came through the ranks at Dallas and Texas is is home state – then a move in that area of the nation is a strong possibility.
