Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri has undergone a minor heart procedure, the Serie A club has announced.

Maurizio Sarri expected to resume Lazio coaching duties in coming days after heart operation

Lazio said the 66-year-old’s operation was successful, as Italian media described the intervention as routine.

Sarri is expected to rest briefly before resuming his normal duties, with Lazio due to host Napoli in Serie A this weekend.

Lazio wrote in a statement: “SS Lazio announces that coach Maurizio Sarri, following a diagnosis of atrial fibrillation, underwent transcatheter ablation surgery using PFA technology at the Tor Vergata Polyclinic.

“The surgery, performed by Professor Andrea Natale, an international pioneer with over thirty years of experience in treating this condition, was successful.”

Lazio’s statement continued: “The SS Lazio team doctor, Dr. Italo Leo, was present at the event.

“The coach will resume regular management of the team in the next few days.”

Lazio finished by thanking the hospital and medical team for their care.

The Lazio state of play ahead of second half of season

It’s good to hear that Sarri’s operation was successful and that he should be back in a few days.

Sarri is a passionate manager who’ll be eager to get back into the swing of things and help Lazio up the table.

Lazio head into the second half of the season sitting eighth in the Serie A table.

They are still within touching distance of the European places, but the gap to the top four has grown.

Inconsistent form and tight margins have been among the defining traits of Lazio’s season so far.

In addition, their next league test is a tricky one as they face reigning champions Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico.

On a brighter note, the Biancocelesti are likely to be busy in the January transfer window.

Lazio had faced an embargo on signings in the summer, which greatly derailed plans after Sarri returned to the club.

However, the club confirmed earlier in December that the embargo is no longer in place.

Many names will likely be linked with the Biancocelesti over the coming weeks.

For instance, Sassuolo striker Andrea Pinamonti is on Lazio’s radar, according to reports.

However, some Lazio players could be on the move. For instance, it is said that both AC Milan and Inter like Mario Gila.
