Inter Milan Target Ibrahima Konate As Liverpool Fail To Meet Frenchman’s Salary Demands
Ibrahima Konate has been targeted by Inter Milan as the French international closes in on free agency.
Inter Milan have joined the race for Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate as the Frenchman’s deal in Merseyside comes to an end in June.
Inter Milan Target Ibrahima Konate
The French international has been heavily linked with a move away, as Konate will be available as a free agent in the next summer transfer window.
Rumors over a move away from Merseyside began during Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid, as Konate was believed to be the next Liverpool star that would join Los Blancos for free.
However, the Spanish side have reportedly ended their pursuit and the Frenchman is now being targeted by a host of European sides this summer.
Konate made a poor start to the season, which was reflected by Liverpool’s form in the Premier League – but the French defender has started to regain his form as the Reds now sit fourth in the table.
Despite this, Konate is yet to sign a new deal and Liverpool are still showing interest in Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi who saw a move to Anfield collapse on the final day of the transfer window.
If Liverpool bring Guehi to Merseyside then Konate could move elsewhere and the Frenchman is now being monitored by Inter Milan.
The Nerazzurri are close to bringing in another defensive signing after agreeing a deal for Branimir Mlacic, but the teenager is set to play a secondary role under Cristian Chivu.
Konate is being viewed as an improvement on the current starting lineup and signing a player for free is tempting on any occasion.
Inter Milan will have to battle the likes of Bayern Munich and PSG for Konate’s signature, while also waiting for the Frenchman to make a decision over a new deal in Liverpool.
Liverpool Face Salary Obstacle In Konate Negotiations
Liverpool have been looking to address Konate’s contract situation for over a year now, but the two parties have failed to reach an agreement.
Reports suggest that Konate was reluctant to sign a new deal after the rumored interest from Real Madrid and a potential issue over the Frenchman’s salary demands.
Konate is reportedly earning around €4.1m per year and is looking to receive a substantial pay rise if he agrees to a new deal in Merseyside.
Inter may be willing to offer Konate an improved deal if there is no transfer fee required and may receive an increase in funds if Hakan Calhanoglu’s contract talks fail.
Liverpool will be hoping to reach an agreement with Konate as the Reds have already experienced the issues with a player leaving as a free agent after Alexander-Arnold’s move to Madrid.
