Inter Milan Set To Swoop For Cagliari Loanee Marco Palestra
The 20-year-old is in demand.
Marco Palestra could be on his way to Inter Milan as the Nerazzurri prepare a January bid for the Cagliari star.
Palestra – who is on loan at the Unipol Domus from Atalanta – has dazzled for the Rossoblu this season. His form has alerted a number of Italy’s elite which includes Inter.
Cristian Chivu’s side is on the lookout for a new full-back to replace the injured Denzel Dumfries. The Romanian head coach is a long-term admirer of Palestra and wants to bring him to San Siro next month.
Marco Palestra Wanted By Inter Milan
Since Denzel Dumfries underwent surgery owing to an ankle injury sustained against Lazio in November, Inter Milan has been on the prowl for a new right wing-back.
The Dutchman isn’t expected back until at least March. And that is where Marco Palestra comes in. The Azzurri Under 21 star is rated as one of Serie A’s finest up-and-coming talents.
Parent club Atalanta aren’t expected to keep hold of Palestra in the January transfer window. Inter are keen to take advantage and are set to ramp up their pursuit of the 20-year-old.
In an ideal world, La Dea would like to keep Palestra once his loan spell at Cagliari concludes. However, recently-appointed head coach Raffaele Palladino wants to raise funds to replenish his roster.
Palestra has been tipped to reach the very top and the Nerazzurri wants to help the Italian whiz achieve his aim. They believe he is ready to make the step-up and are weighing up a bid in the region of €35million.
Could Denzel Dumfries Leave Inter Milan?
Although Juventus have targeted Marco Palestra as well, Inter Milan views the youngster as a long-term replacement for star defender Denzel Dumfries.
Dumfries could quit Inter at the end of the season after he switched agents in early December. Which is typically a tell-tale sign a player is actively seeking a new club.
Since joining the Serie A giants in 2021, the Dutchman has won the Scudetto alongside two Coppa Italia’s. Dumfries has also lifted three Supercoppa Italiana’s and finished as a Champions League runner-up on two occasions.
The 29-year-old has also chipped in with 25 goals and 26 assists from 194 appearances. Therefore, a new venture is likely as his current deal concludes in 2028.
That would mean Cristian Chivu’s side could command a sizable fee for Dumfries. The Inter boss won’t be short of potential suitors and that would make a smooth transition for Palestra to come in and take over the reins.
However, it may prove more financially viable to trim his squad next month to bring the right-back on board. Davide Frattesi has Serie A admirers in the shape of Roma and Juventus.
Even ageing defender Stefan de Vrij could be moved on as well. Spanish champions Barcelona are his likeliest destination.
