Brendan Rodgers has made a return to management after parting ways with Celtic in October, as the former Liverpool boss begins a new era in Saudi Arabia.
Al Qadsiah decided to cut ties with Michel, as the Saudi Pro League side look to implement a new philosophy and utilize Rodgers’ superior experience.
The Northern Irishman has followed in the footsteps of Robbie Fowler as another Liverpool legend to manage Al Qadsiah – with Fowler coaching the Saudi Arabian side between July and October 2023.
Al Qadsiah currently sit fifth in the table with 17 points from nine matches, 10 points behind table-toppers Al Nassr who have won every league match this season.
This performance has been somewhat of a disappointment as the Saudi Pro League side were expecting to be in the title conversation after signing Mateo Retegui for €65million in the summer.
The Azzurri international decided to move away from Serie A after winning the Golden Boot with 26 league goals last season and Retegui has already contributed to nine goals in 12 appearances (8G + 1A).
Saudi Arabia is set to witness a further Italian presence on December 18th, as Napoli, Bologna, Inter Milan and AC Milan compete for the Supercoppa Italiana – with the winner earning huge prize money.
Retegui may be in attendance to see some of his international teammates in action, as Al Qadisah’s next league match is not until December 27th.
However, the Italian may have bigger things on his mind ahead of the January transfer window, as Rodgers’ appointment has caused a stir in Saudi Arabia and caught the attention of multiple Serie A sides.
AC Milan Monitor Mateo Retegui
The Italian international was one of the biggest talking points in soccer after his move to Saudi Arabia, as Retegui turned down offers from multiple elite sides.
AC Milan were reportedly interested in signing the 26-year-old from Atalanta, but were unwilling to meet La Dea’s hefty price tag.
Massimiliano Allegri is on the hunt for a new striker after Santiago Gimenez opted to undergo ankle surgery and the Rossoneri may re-enter negotiations with Retegui.
Al Qadsiah will not be willing to offload their star asset in the January window for anything less than €65m and Retegui needs to stay in Saudi Arabia for over six-months to adhere to receive the full financial gain.
Milan are not looking to spend this amount in January, but the Rossoneri are considering a possible loophole by signing the Italian striker on loan.
