Santiago Gimenez Opts For Surgery On Ankle Injury As Milan Scramble To Find Replacement

Milan forward Santiago Gimenez has reportedly opted to undergo surgery on the ankle injury that has been troubling him since October.

Milan set to be without Santiago Gimenez until February at the earliest

Gimenez has been sidelined since the 1-1 draw between Milan and Atalanta on October 28.

After the Atalanta game, Gimenez’s father suggested that he had an ankle issue. Since then, the player has not been seen training with the group.

Now, Calciomercato has reported that Gimenez had a medical consultation on Tuesday and decided to go for surgery.

To solve the issue, the Mexico international reportedly had two options open to him: natural recovery or surgery.

And after months of conservative treatment, he has apparently chosen the latter to solve the issue once and for all.

The report claims Gimenez could be on the sidelines until late February or early March.

Which strikers Milan could look to sign to alleviate Gimenez absence

Milan had already been looking for reinforcements up front ahead of the latest Gimenez report.

Alongside Gimenez’s injury, the Rossoneri don’t appear convinced by Christopher Nkunku’s efforts so far.

West Ham’s Niclas Fullkrug is reported to be Milan’s top target in the January transfer window.

The striker is apparently moving closer to a loan move to the San Siro and will join until the end of the season.

Reports suggest Fullkrug will be a stop-gap between now and the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Then, in the summer, Milan will seemingly look for a long-term option to bolster their attacking ranks.

Other names linked with the Rossoneri include Robert Lewandowski, Andrea Pinamonti, Lorenzo Lucca and Sidiki Cherif.

Dusan Vlahovic is also reportedly on Milan’s radar, his Juventus contract expiring at the end of the season.

Gimenez himself has been linked with a move away from San Siro, but this is unlikely to happen in January as he recovers from his ankle injury.
