AC Milan are increasingly optimistic of securing a new contract for goalkeeper Mike Maignan after fresh talks this week, Italian reports say.

Milan make ‘super’ contract offer to Mike Maignan

Negotiations had been stalling earlier in December, with Maignan’s deal running to June 30, 2026 amid interest in the player from elsewhere.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport says a breakthrough is close, with Milan preparing a “super offer” amid growing confidence the 30-year-old will agree.

According to the popular Italian sports newspaper, the club have put forward an extension to 2029, with an option for 2030.

The package is worth about €7m a season net, bonuses included, matching Milan’s top earners and closing the gap to Maignan’s requests.

With the new agreement, the Frenchman would effectively be tied with Rafael Leao as the highest-paid player in the squad.

Earlier reports in Italy suggested his camp had been pushing for €7.5m guaranteed plus add-ons, or even €8m in total.

Milan are reportedly also ready to sweeten the deal with performance clauses tied to Champions League qualification and a quicker contract signature.

Neither club nor player has commented publicly, but sources close to the talks describe the mood as “positive” and “constructive”.

Why Mike Maignan matters

Maignan has become one of Milan’s leaders, wearing the captain’s armband at times this season and setting high standards in training.

The Rossoneri believe there are few goalkeepers of his level available, and they want to avoid entering 2026 with uncertainty.

The outlet reports that everyone at Milan is trying to push Maignan to put pen to paper, testament to how much they like him.

Maignan is also along very well with both Massimiliano Allegri and Claudio Filippi, the goalkeeping coach.

From January, he will be able to discuss a future move abroad, making the coming weeks important for Milan’s hierarchy.

The club’s new offer is designed to remove that risk, along with signalling their intent to build around a settled spine.

If Maignan accepts, Milan would secure a key position and take a significant step in their planning for next season.

Should talks stall again, the search for alternatives will intensify, with Italian media having linked Milan to Hugo Souza of Corinthians.

For now, optimism is growing that Maignan’s future will remain at San Siro, with both sides edging towards a deal.

Milan should also be busy in the January transfer market, with the names of multiple players doing the rounds.
