How Much Hugo Souza Could Cost Milan Amid Carlo Ancelotti Praise of Brazil Goalkeeper

Milan are reportedly pondering a move for Corinthians and Brazil goalkeeper Hugo Souza if contract talks with Mike Maignan fizzle out.
Milan could land Hugo Souza for less than €15m
The Rossoneri’s priority remains renewing Maignan’s deal beyond the end of the 2025/26 season, with talks having intensified in recent weeks.
Discussions between the club and the Frenchman’s camp have been going on for over a year now.
With that in mind, Milan do not want to be caught unprepared if an agreement cannot be found with Maignan.
Therefore, the Rossoneri started to sound out alternatives, including Hugo Souza, according to Sky Sport Italia.
The 26-year-old is currently valued at around €12million by Corinthians, making him a relatively inexpensive option for Milan.
For now, the Rossoneri’s stance is clear – push hard to lock down Maignan.
However, they are keeping Hugo Souza firmly in view in case the renewal plan falls apart.
Liverpool star Alisson Becker is also on Milan’s radar, according to reports.
What Carlo Ancelotti has said about Hugo Souza
Ancelotti, one of Milan’s greatest legends of all time, recently gave Souza his Brazil debut.
The 6ft 6in stopper played the full 90 minutes in October’s friendly between the Selecao and Japan.
A month earlier, Ancelotti spoke to ESPN Brasil about his expectations of Souza.
“I really like Hugo as a goalkeeper,” said the Rossoneri icon.
“He has personality, character, he’s very tall, and I believe that in the next few games we can think about giving him an opportunity to get used to the team.”
Ancelotti also suggested that Souza would be in the picture for the 2026 World Cup thanks to his penalty-saving skills.
“We are thinking about that,” he continued.
“About preparing, studying penalties, preparing a goalkeeper for penalties.
“In knockout games in the past… Brazil was unlucky against Croatia.
“Many quarter-final and round of 16 matches are decided on penalties, so it’s something we are thinking about, evaluating.”
Ancelotti had named Souza on the Brazil bench in his first game in charge of the Selecao.
