AS Roma Goalkeeper Mile Svilar On Tottenham’s Radar To Replace Guglielmo Vicario

Mile Svilar has been identified by English Premier League side Tottenham as a potential replacement for Guglielmo Vicario. 

Svilar has starred in Serie A in recent seasons and currently has the best save percentage across Italy’s elite. The Serbian goalkeeper boasted that honor in the last campaign with a figure of 77%.

Under the guidance of wily old boss Claudio Ranieri in 2024-25, Svilar registered 16 clean sheets. A divisional high alongside Scudetto-winning stopper Alex Meret.

With the above in mind, Roma will do all they can to keep Svilar at the Stadio Olimpico for as long as possible. But if Spurs were to sell Vicario, would Svilar be interested in a move to London?

Mile Svilar Transfer News Highlights Tottenham Interest

According to FootballBlog, Mile Svilar is top of Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Guglielmo Vicario. The struggling Italian goalkeeper has made costly mistakes in recent weeks.

That has heightened the Europa League winners need for a new ‘keeper and they believe Svilar is a prime candidate. However, he has previously said he is extremely happy in Rome.

Even Argentina’s Matias Soule – a friend and teammate – has publicly said that Svilar wouldn’t consider a move to London at this stage of his career.

Of course, it will be something to mull over in the future but the one-cap Serbian international is a vital cog in head coach Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

Svilar has conceded just eight Serie A goals in 15 appearances this term. The 26-year-old also has seven clean sheets to his name.

Although Roma’s striker search goes on owing to the slightly worrying lack of goals they are netting, their rock-solid goalkeeper could quite literally make the difference to being crowned champions of Italy.

Who Could Replace Mile Svilar At Roma?

In the summer, Roma targeted Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa. Not as a direct replacement for Mile Svilar, but to provide healthy competition.

Although that move never came to fruition, Martinez would be more than apt to fill the void if Svilar was to leave his post with the Giallorossi.

The 2022 World Cup winner has often appeared unsettled at Villa Park so would be a strong consideration. Elsewhere, Mike Maignan’s contract update with AC Milan means his future is very uncertain.

The French international will reportedly make a decision on whether to accept his new deal in February. Former goalkeeper Alisson Becker is also a viable candidate.

Alisson may leave struggling Liverpool in the summer and a Stadio Olimpico return would be welcomed by both parties.

Roma’s 2025-26 Scudetto Hopes

Since they last won the Scudetto in 2000-01, Roma have finished as runners-up on nine occasions. With Mile Svilar in the form of his life, they’ll be hoping to avoid the tenth.

Svilar is not only a goalkeeper who is an expert at defending his net, his ball-playing skills are what makes him stand out from the rest in Serie A. And it’s easy to see why Tottenham is so keen.

The Belgium-born stopper continues to go from strength-to-strength and if the Giallorossi can continue to blunt opposition attackers, landing the title will become a genuine possibility.

With the likes of Matias Soule flourishing and Evan Ferguson finding his feet, a strong January window with the addition of a couple of key signings could do the trick.

Naturally, being in the running with both Milan clubs as well as current champions Napoli won’t be easy. But with Svilar in between the sticks, anything is possible.
