Moise Kean reflects on near miss against France: “Maignan was great”

Following Italy’s 3-1 defeat to France in the UEFA Nations League, striker Moise Kean expressed his thoughts on the match, particularly a missed opportunity late in the game. Speaking to Rai Sport, Kean acknowledged the impressive performance of French goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who successfully denied him a goal.

“Maignan was great; I tried to surprise him, but he was attentive,” Kean said. “We played an excellent match; unfortunately, the result penalized us, but we can only learn from this game. It was a tough match because there were few spaces to attack, and they have excellent defenders. Again, we can only learn from this experience.”

Kean also addressed his own form and readiness for selection: “Yes, I’m feeling good. Whenever the coach calls me, I always make sure to be ready.”

Italy’s head coach Luciano Spalletti also weighed in on the match, expressing regret over the goals conceded from set pieces. “It’s unfortunate,” he remarked. “When you could have a more relaxed evening, you go in and immediately concede a goal from a set piece. Then we weren’t able to stay calm and spent too much energy. It’s a bit random with all the set pieces. At 2-1, it seemed we could manage the game better, but then another set piece created problems for us, and they closed up.”
