Inter Milan Prepare January Bid For Genoa Star Morten Frendrup With Serie A Rivals Also Monitoring Dane

Inter Milan are preparing a January transfer bid for Genoa star Morten Frendrup. 

Frendrup is considered one of Serie A’s hottest properties and Inter are keen to lure him to the San Siro. Head coach Cristian Chivu wants to increase his midfield options and views the Dane as an ideal addition.

However, competition for the 24-year-old is expected to be fierce. The likes of AC Milan and Roma are also tracking Frendrup with a number of English Premier League sides also monitoring the Grifone ace.

Although Inter Milan were one of the highest when it came to spending the most money in the summer transfer window, Cristian Chivu is willing to splash more cash in January.

The Romanian head coach wants to reinforce his roster ahead of the second-half of the 2025-26 campaign. Hakan Calhanoglu, Petar Sucic, Nicolo Barella and Piotr Zielinski have been Chivu’s preferred central midfielders.

Nonetheless, bringing Frendrup on board will create plenty of healthy competition. The Danish international would also be eligible for Champions League selection in the new year as he isn’t playing in European competition.

From a negotiation perspective, new Genoa head coach Daniele De Rossi will want to keep Frendrup at the Luigi Ferraris but will likely not stand in his way if he wants to leave.

Interestingly, De Rossi was close to joining the Nerazzurri himself in his playing days. However, his love for Roma and the city meant he stayed with the Giallorossi.

In terms of representation, Frendrup is on the books of CAA Base Ltd. They work with some of the sport’s biggest players and managers and also represent Juventus’ Bremer.

Morten Frendrup is considered to be one of Serie A’s most dynamic and energetic central midfielders. Frendrup is also very versatile and can play as a defensive midfielder, left midfielder and full-back.

Something of which will very much appeal to Christian Chivu who typically deploys a 3-5-2 lineup. Furthermore, Frendrup has strong defensive attributes.

Quick, strong in the tackle and a great reader of the game, the Danish international is often praised for his high work rate and his ability to influence games.

In the 2023-24 campaign, Frendrup won 122 balls and made 131 successful tackles. That was the most recorded in Serie A – which shows why Inter are so keen to beat a number of clubs to his signature.

Although the Milan derby takes center-stage this weekend – which is expected to be the highest grossing game of all time in Italian soccer – scouts are expected to further monitor Frendrup’s performance against Cagliari on matchday 12.

Morten Frendrup’s Transfer Value

Interestingly, it’s understood that a bid in the region of €25-30million would be enough to sign Morten Frendrup. Some outlets are reporting €15-20m which many can consider as a real bargain.

According to TransferMarkt, Frendrup is valued at €20m and he currently has two-and-a-half years to run on his deal.

With the above in mind, Inter Milan would probably be able to tempt Genoa into negotiations for €30m+. The Grifone has a number of financial implications to navigate and bringing in much-needed funds would help.

However, potentially losing a player of Frendrup’s quality mid-season could seriously harm their chances of survival. If a suitable replacement could be identified, it’s more likely Daniele De Rossi will allow Frendrup to leave.
