Napoli’s Injury Crisis Continues As Star Defender Faces Lengthy Spell On Sidelines
Antonio Conte has been left with another injury concern as Napoli will be without Giovanni Di Lorenzo for an extended period of time.
Napoli have suffered another injury blow as Giovanni Di Lorenzo is expected to miss over a month after picking up a knock against Fiorentina.
Giovanni Di Lorenzo Injury News
The Partenopei have endured a torrid time with injuries this season and were hit with another issue during a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina on January 31st – as Giovanni Di Lorenzo was stretchered off.
Antonio Conte was forced to replace his captain with Mathias Olivera after just 30 minutes and Napoli have now revealed the severity of Di Lorenzo’s injury.
Napoli’s statement read: “Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who was injured during the match against Fiorentina on Saturday, underwent medical tests on Sunday at Pineta Grande Hospital.
“The tests revealed a second-degree sprain to his left knee. The club captain will meet with a specialist consultant to determine the rehabilitation pathway.”
Di Lorenzo is expected to be out for at least a month, which is terrible news for both Napoli and the Italian national team, as both have some huge fixtures coming up.
Gennaro Gattuso will be forming his roster for Italy’s World Cup playoff clash against Northern Ireland on March 26th and Di Lorenzo would be a crucial player for the Azzurri.
The Partenopei will not be able to call upon Di Lorenzo for their league matches against Genoa, Roma and Atalanta, alongside a Coppa Italia quarter final against Como.
Antonio Conte has addressed his injury problems with some reinforcements in January, with Napoli signing Alisson Santos from Sporting Lisbon.
Napoli are still facing huge issues in the center of midfield, with Kevin De Bruyne, Billy Gilmour and Frank Anguissa all missing the majority of this season so far.
Conte will need to get the best out of his remaining roster for the latter stages of the campaign, as the Italian’s future in Naples has been called into question.
Antonio Conte Napoli Future Uncertain
The Partenopei have failed to meet expectations during the 2025/26 campaign, as the Serie A champions sit third in the table and failed to progress into the Champions League Ro16.
Conte’s European record took another beating after Napoli’s 3-2 defeat by Chelsea on January 28th and the Italian is now under increased pressure.
Serie A has already seen two managerial exits in 2026, as Pisa sacked Alberto Gilardino and Hellas Verona parted ways with Paolo Zanetti.
Both of these sides are in far worse positions in the table in comparison to Napoli, as Verona sit bottom and Pisa take up 19th – but Conte could face a similar fate.
The former Chelsea manager has a tricky relationship with Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis and almost left the club during the summer despite winning the Scudetto last season.
His deal with the Partenopei is set to expire in June 2027, but there is a huge chance of a move elsewhere beforehand if Napoli’s form does not improve.
