The Italian Lega Serie A has levied a hefty fine of €100,000 against Napoli after club president Aurelio De Laurentiis staged a protest against broadcaster DAZN. The incident occurred just before Napoli’s clash with Juventus on March 3, when De Laurentiis was incensed to find a DAZN cameraman in the tunnel. His outburst, which included expletives, was followed by the revelation that the cameraman was actually a member of Napoli’s staff.
De Laurentiis’ frustration extended to the rescheduling of Napoli’s Serie A fixture against Atalanta, which was moved to March 1 from its original date of April 1, a decision he attributed to DAZN. Consequently, he imposed a ban on Napoli’s communication with the Italian broadcaster.
According to reports from Corriere della Sera via TMW, DAZN lodged a formal complaint against De Laurentiis and Napoli shortly after the incident, submitting a letter to Lega Serie A. Following an investigation, the league took disciplinary action, imposing a significant fine of €100,000 on Napoli for their protest.
Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo emphasized the contractual obligations between clubs and DAZN, underscoring that any breaches of these agreements would face consequences. Additionally, Lazio received a €10,000 fine in connection with the same incident.
