Napoli’s Rasmus Hojlund Reveals What He Does Every Time Manchester United Play

Rasmus Hojlund says he still watches Manchester United and wishes them luck, even as he insists his move to Napoli “feels right” under Antonio Conte.

Earlier this year, Hojlund made the move from Man United to Napoli after a difficult spell at Old Trafford.

However, it didn’t take long for the Dane to return to the kind of form he displayed at Atalanta.

Hojlund is now one of Serie A’s most dangerous forwards, and Man United fans are bemoaning their luck.

Indeed, Gianfranco Zola recently claimed Man United would be going “crazy” over Hojlund’s change in fortunes.

Both Hojlund and Scott McTominay are now shining at Napoli after struggling at Old Trafford.

The Denmark international ruffled feathers earlier this month with an Instagram post seemingly mocking Man United.

“This is what a good decision looks like,” he posted along with a picture of himself with the Italian Super Cup.

However, Hojlund insists there is no bitterness about his United spell, even if his exit was not the path he expected.

He told Sports Illustrated that the move to Manchester brought “a lot of attention and a lot of pressure”, but he felt it was hard to turn down.

Hojlund admitted he was a Man United fan, and argued he “did well” in his first year, finishing as the team’s top scorer.

He also pointed to a strong Champions League campaign and a trophy win with the squad as evidence he handled the step up.

Now settled in Naples, he said: “I’m so happy to be here,” while stressing his former teammates remain friends.

“Most of them… all of them are more or less my friends,” he added, before revealing he follows United closely from Italy.

“I’m still watching them and wishing them good luck every time they play,” Hojlund said.

Hojlund reveals how he knew his time at Old Trafford was coming to an end

Hojlund said he left Old Trafford after United decided he was not part of their plans for this season.

“United made it quite clear for me that I wasn’t part of the plans for this year coming into the season, and with no European football and that sort of things,” he said.

“I’m young, I have to play football. And for that reason, I think this was also a good opportunity for me.”

Napoli moved quickly, and Hojlund says he immediately told his camp he only wanted the Italian champions.

He described a brief but decisive chat with Conte, adding: “When he calls you, you just have to say yes.”

The deal is a season-long loan for around €6m with a €44m option to buy. This becomes an obligation to buy if Napoli reach the Champions League.

Napoli initially saw him as an emergency solution after Romelu Lukaku suffered a serious pre-season injury.

However, Hojlund has become more than cover, with his goals and assists making him indispensable.

Conte has highlighted his improvements, and the striker’s blend of power and movement has suited Napoli’s direct transitions and fast support runs.

Hojlund also credited Lukaku as a major draw, calling him an “idol” and praising his ability to score and link play.
