Ahead of Saturday’s MD2 Serie A clash, FootItalia has the Pisa vs Roma preview, prediction, betting tips, odds and more.

Pisa Vs Roma Preview

Roma began the Gian Piero Gasperini era with a fine 1-0 win over Bologna on MD1. Summer signing Wesley scored the decisive goal at the Stadio Olimpico.

It was the perfect start for Gasperini who has been tasked with bringing UCL soccer to Rome next season. The former Atalanta boss will be happy with what he saw but will want to see more from his players.

The Giallorossi finished fifth last term after three consecutive sixth-placed finishes. From Gasperini’s perspective, cracking into the top four is more than achievable.

A win on Saturday will certainly put Roma on the right trajectory going into the international break. And they will be confident of securing maximum points against their newly-promoted hosts.

Pisa picked up a very admirable point against Atalanta last time out. The Nerazzurri took a surprise lead in Bergamo thanks to an Isak Hien own goal.

It was their first goal in Italy’s top-flight since 1991 – they last time they played Serie A soccer. However, their dream start was tarnished when Gianluca Scamacca equalized for La Dea.

Nonetheless, it was a fine point on the road for Alberto Gilardino’s side. They have plenty of positives to take into Saturday’s clash.

Interestingly, Pisa’s last top-flight home game came against Roma 34 years ago. On that day, the Giallorossi ran out 1-0 victors.

Pisa Vs Roma Team News And Predicted Lineups

With new signing Leon Bailey injured for the next four weeks, Roma supporters will have to wait to see the Jamaican international in action.

Bailey is expected to feature heavily under Gian Piero Gasperini this term. However, the likes of Matias Soule, Stephan El Shaarawy, Neil El Aynaoui will occupy the attacking spots in Gasperini’s 3-4-2-1 set up.

Up top, loanee Evan Ferguson is set to be favored over Artem Dovbyk. The Irishman put in a Player of the Match performance against Bologna last week.

Lorenzo Pellegrini is still ruled out but Zeki Celik is available for selection after serving his suspension. Brazilian wing-back Wesley will play on the right after netting on his debut on MD1.

Although Pisa are priced at +425 with Serie A betting sites to cause an upset at the Arena Garibaldi, they will do their utmost to build on their fine start.

Calvin Stengs has recently joined on loan and a deal for Raul Albiol is close to completion. Their inclusion will help fill the void left by crocked trio Tomas Esteves, Isak Vural and Mateus Lusuard.

Henrik Meister and Alexander Lind are rated 50/50 but last year’s top scorer Matteo Tramoni will play off the former if he is passed fit.

Pisa Vs Roma Prediction

Both sides will come into the game full of confidence after their opening day results. It’ll be a very emotional occasion for the Pisa faithful who will witness Serie A soccer on home soil for the first time in 34 years.

However, Roma – under the guidance of wily veteran head coach Gian Piero Gasperini – should have too much quality to spoil the party.

Especially with Evan Ferguson leading the line. The 20-year-old looked sharp in pre-season and caused all sorts of problems for the Bologna defense last weekend.

Prediction: Pisa 1-3 Roma

Pisa Vs Roma Betting Tips

  • Pisa vs Roma betting tip 1: Evan Ferguson to score first at +500

Evan Ferguson starred against Bologna and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. At +500 to net first against newly-promoted Pisa, it looks a good wager to consider.

  • Pisa vs Roma betting tip 2: Over 3.5 goals at +280

Although both teams were involved in low scoring games last week, that should change this week with Roma in town – who are still riding the crest of the Claudio Ranieri wave from last season.

Pisa will want to give a strong account of themselves in front of their supporters but ultimately, the Giallorossi will have too much quality.
