Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is expected to learn the results of the counter-analysis on his positive doping test today, with some reports suggesting it will confirm his guilt. The Frenchman returned a positive test following Juve’s 3-0 win over Udinese in August, showing higher than usual levels of testosterone.
The 30-year-old maintained that he was innocent of any offence, with some papers suggesting the testosterone levels were caused by a cream or supplement that was provided by a medical professional.
The verdict was expected on Thursday 5 October, but the latest reports from Italy suggest it has been pushed back to Friday. A positive result could spell the end of Pogba’s career, given that he could be handed a maximum four-year ban.
A number of Italian newspapers have suggested that Juventus will likely terminate Pogba’s contract if he is banned, resulting in almost €30 million saved in salary payments to the midfielder.
