Premier League Side To Recall Italy U-21 Star After Difficult Loan Spell In Spain

Burnley are ready to make a bold decision over Italy U-21 star Luca Koleosho as the youngster continues to struggle in Spain.

Burnley To Terminate Luca Koleosho Loan

The 21-year-old could be heading back to England during the January transfer window after failing to cement a place in the Espanyol side.

Koleosho joined the LaLiga giants on loan during the recent summer transfer window, as Scott Parker could not guarantee regular playing-time with Burnley.

Initially, the Italian was deemed to be the next big star for Burnley after making his Premier League debut at 18-years-old in August 2023 – but a major knee injury ruled him out for the majority of the 2023/24 campaign.

During his absence, Scott Parker took the reins from Vincent Kompany after Burnley dropped back into the Championship and Koleosho was often utilized as a substitute.

This, alongside the signings of Loum Tchouana and Jacob Bruun Larsen, forced Koleosho into a temporary move away and the youngster joined Espanyol.

Interestingly, the 21-year-old played for Espanyol’s youth sides and B team before earning a move to Burnley which was supposed to bring a seamless transition when joining the first-team.

However, Koleosho has not made a real impact on the Espanyol team this season, failing to start a single LaLiga clash and accumulating just 226 minutes across all competitions.

Koleosho’s Italy U-21 teammate Michael Kayode is set to extend his future in the Premier League and the Espanyol loanee could follow a similar path.

Burnley have been left frustrated with the 21-year-old’s lack of playing time in Spain and Scott Parker is set to terminate Koleosho’s deal in LaLiga.

Luca Koleosho Yet To Commit Future To Azzurri

Another interesting factor in the career of Luca Koleosho is his international allegiance, as the youngster is eligible for Italy, Nigeria, United States and Canada.

The 21-year-old’s father is Nigerian father and his mother is Italian-Canadian, meaning Koleosho has a plethora of options going forward.

His experiences have crossed across many nations so far, representing the United States U-15 level and being involved in multiple camps with Canada.

However, the winger appears to have honed in on the Italian national team after winning the U-19 European Championships with the Azzurrini in 2023 and making 12 appearances for the Italy U-21 side.

Many players are considering moves to better their career ahead of the 2026 World Cup, with Sandro Tonali pushing for a Serie A return and Koleosho may search for more minutes in hopes of a miraculous call-up.

The Azzurri face Northern Ireland on March 26th in the World Cup playoff semi-finals and Koleosho’s inclusion appears unlikely – which could see the youngster consider a switch to the United States or Canada.
