Why Robert Lewandowski Must Snub Interest from AC Milan After ‘Difficult’ Warning

Robert Lewandowski remains on AC Milan’s radar – but he would do well to turn down a move to Italy.

The veteran striker is expected to leave Barcelona when his contract runs down at the end of the season, despite the LaLiga club holding the option to extend his terms for another 12 months.

He has started just seven LaLiga matches, and his influence is waning despite scoring eight goals in total.

Only Kylian Mbappe (18), Torres (11) and Vedat Muriqi (nine) have netted more in the league than the prolific Pole, showcasing his ability to perform at the top level despite his advancing age.

Regardless, he has still been tipped to bring an end to his three-year spell in Catalonia.

Lewandowski has been heavily linked with a swansong in Serie A, with Milan eyeing up a free transfer. He also held talks with MLS outfit Chicago Fire alongside his agent, Pini Zahavi.

A move to Italy might be a fitting way to bring the curtain down, but he should actually stay away.

Why Robert Lewandowski Should Snub Italy Interest

For starters, Lewandowski would not be guaranteed minutes in Milan, a similar conundrum to the one he currently faces at Barcelona.

Massimiliano Allegri is clearly on the hunt for attacking reinforcements, with both Santiago Gimenez and Christopher Nkunku already on the chopping block, but he would prefer long-term targets able to commit to his project for several years. That is certainly not the case for Lewandowski.

The 37-year-old would also be earning less than his substantial wage packet in LaLiga.

It remains to be seen whether he would be open to accepting such a dramatic cut, especially with superior offers from Saudi Arabia and the United States on the table.

Serie A is notoriously robust, and Lewandowski, who now fades in and out of games, may not impose himself.

Lewandowski will first have to weigh up what he wants from his next switch. However, at this stage, Milan’s expectations do not appear to match up to his lingering strengths.

Robert Lewandowski Warned Against AC Milan Move

As Lewandowski weighs up his next chapter, the advice of Polish legend Zbigniew Boniek will be ringing in his ears. Indeed, Boniek also believes he should turn down a move to Milan.

“If he ended up at San Siro, he would have problems,” he said, via Mundo Deportivo.

“Playing in Italy is more difficult than in Spain. In my opinion, his signing for Milan seems unlikely, especially because the Italians don’t pay as much as the Spaniards.

“Milan has Luka Modric, who is 40 years old, in midfield. But being a centre forward in Serie A means constantly colliding with 190 cm centre-backs, elbowing and committing fouls.

“I don’t know if that would be a challenge for Robert.”

Robert Lewandowski Undecided On His Future

Lewandowski addressed his uncertain future last month, but insisted he has not yet made up his mind.

“I will soon be ready to decide which direction to take,” he told TVP Sport, via Calciomercato.

“I will evaluate all the options, I don’t know where I’ll be or what I will want to do in a few months’ time.”
