Roma Already Considering Terminating Leon Bailey And Kostas Tsimikas Loans
The duo could find themselves back in the Premier League in a matter of weeks.
Roma are already weighing up terminating Leon Bailey and Kostas Tsimikas’ loans, according to reports.
Roma Not Impressed With Performances
The club are expected to be active in the January transfer window, with plans drawn up for incomings and outgoings as Gian Piero Gasperini looks to strengthen his squad and cut the deadwood.
Departures will be necessary to reduce the club’s wage bill and free up room for additions, especially in attack.
According to Corriere dello Sport, that could spell the end of Bailey and Tsimikas’ time at the Stadio Olimpico, with the duo having underwhelmed since joining from Aston Villa and Liverpool respectively during the summer.
It is said the decision would be made on a technical basis, with scrutiny on their performances and compatibility with Gasperini’s tactics.
Bailey has just nine appearances in all competitions under his belt this season, while Tsimikas has made 11.
Leon Bailey ‘Flash In The Pan’
An option to buy was included in the deal for Bailey, but he could soon find himself back at Villa.
The winger, 28, joined the Premier League club from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 and made 144 appearances, scoring 22 goals. But after netting just twice during the 2024-25 campaign, he was sent out on loan.
Bailey then missed the start of the season with Roma due to a muscle issue before eventually making his debut against Inter Milan on October 18. Damningly, he has yet to get off the mark for his current club.
The Italian press have unsurprisingly criticised his displays.
Voce Giallo Rossa pointed out his ‘noticeable decline’ despite making a ‘strong impact’ in his first few outings.
Tuttomercato, meanwhile, brutally described him as a ‘flash in the pan’.
FootItalia previously reported that Bailey wanted to cut his Roma loan short.
Kostas Tsimikas Has Made ‘Too Many Mistakes’
Tsimikas, 29, made 115 appearances for Liverpool after joining from Olympiacos in 2020, but was allowed to move on after Milos Kerkez arrived at Anfield. The Greek full-back has since struggled for minutes in Rome.
In fact, he has not started a game since mid-November and has been consigned to cameos from the bench.
No option or obligation to buy was included, meaning Tsimikas would return to his parent club with his future unclear. The experienced Andy Robertson would also remain ahead of him.
Football Italia believes he has made ‘too many mistakes’ and delivered ‘some anonymous performances’. Right-back Wesley was even shifted across to fill in for Angelino on the left, despite Tsimikas being fit to play.
Tsimkas was wanted by Fiorentina in the summer, but opted for Roma instead.
