The Serie A goals per game ratio in 2025-26 is currently the lowest across Europe’s top five soccer leagues.
Albeit, the campaign is still in it’s infancy but the lack of goals compared to the Premier League, LaLiga, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga can be considered concerning.
However, this hasn’t appeared to deter soccer supporters in the USA from watching. Last season, a 50% surge in TV viewership of Italy’s elite division was reported compared to 2023-24.
That in itself shows just how much interest in Serie A has skyrocketed stateside in recent years. Americans certainly have a keen interest but if the goals continue to dry up this season, viewership figures may also decline.
Serie A Goals Per Game Ratio In 2025-26
With the October international break taking center stage this week, it provides the perfect opportunity to assess the Serie A goals per game ratio.
All 20 teams who compete in the league have played six games each. Therefore, 60 fixtures have been fulfilled so far with a total goal count of 143. This gives a goals per game (GPG) total of 2.2.
Although Italy’s GPG is currently the lowest, there have been less matches so far. Teams in the Premier League, LaLiga and Ligue 1 have all played either seven or eight times.
Germany’s Bundesliga has also hosted six games each for the 18 participants. However, they can be classed as the most ‘exciting’ so far with a GPG ratio of 3.3.
The Serie A transfers across the summer window saw a number of stars quit Italy. Nonetheless, a plethora of newbies moved into the division but are still settling in. Which could be a reason why the back of the net has not rippled as much.

Serie A Goals Per Game Ratio For 2024-25
Last season, Serie A once again came bottom of the pile for the goals per game ratio. Compared to the other four major soccer leagues in Europe, there wasn’t a huge amount of difference.
The Bundesliga once again came out on top with Ligue 1, the Premier League and LaLiga occupying second, third and fourth spots. In fact, the 2024-25 table is exactly the same as this year.
Does that indicate that Serie A doesn’t boast as many genuine scorers or are the defenders perhaps improving? That can certainly be dissected but the most obvious reason is that Italian soccer has always been played at a slower pace.
In fact, it’s traditional for the beautiful game to be played in such a way across Italy. Granted, the other four leagues are much more gung-ho as they want to maintain the entertainment factor and sustain the riches that go with it.
However, Italian soccer is by no means ‘boring.’ It can also be argued it’s more tactical with teams perhaps more content on winning 2-0 or 3-1 as opposed to a 4-0 or 5-1 thrashing.

Will Serie A Viewership Figures Drop In The USA?
DAZN and Paramount+ broadcast Serie A games in the USA for the 2025-26 season but it’s unlikely that viewership figures will drastically drop owing to the GPG ratio.
American supporters have a deep affiliation with Italy and the interest in the countries elite soccer division is widely expected to increase more over the coming seasons.
Scorelines aren’t always the main draw to watching matches. Some will tune in purely to see the likes of USMNT stars Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah and Weston McKennie in action.
Furthermore, DAZN and Paramount have split the English and Spanish broadcasts to better serve the Hispanic community. Thus, allowing as many people as possible to watch Serie A.
Of course, there is always a slight doubt that figures could tumble but it’s not as if a plethora of games are typically being drawn 0-0 every single week.
The GPG ratio can be taken with a pinch of salt. Serie A continues to flourish and they are still able to attract some of the world’s greatest players. Therefore, keeping viewers tuned in.
