USMNT legend, Alexi Lalas, has issued a warning to Yunus Musah and Timothy Weah as the American duo edge nearer to an exit from Serie A.
Will Yunus Musah Leave AC Milan?
The USMNT star has been the subject of multiple transfer rumors during this summer window and could be heading away from AC Milan before the 2025/26 season begins.
Musah signed for the Rossoneri in August 2023 after an impressive spell in Spain with Valencia, making 108 appearances for the La Liga giants.
During his time in Milan, Musah has gone on to make 80 appearances for the Italian side and is still awaiting his first goal in the red and black half of the city.
His only piece of silverware came at the beginning of last season, winning the Supercoppa Italiana and began the 2024/25 campaign strongly by becoming a regular in the heart of Milan’s midfield.
However, the 22-year-old went on to start just two of Milan’s final 10 league matches, sitting on the bench for the entirety of three of these and looked to have fallen out of favor.
Playing time in Milan will also become less consistent for Musah during the 2025/26 season, as Milan have already signed two players in the central midfield position.
Samuele Ricci joined the club from Torino for around $25 million and the Rossoneri also snapped up one of the best free agents on the market by adding Luka Modric to their roster.
The Croatian ended a 13-season career with Real Madrid, winning multiple Champions Leagues and La Liga titles, while also picking up the Ballon d’oR award in 2018.
Musah will also face competition from a returning Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who recently praised Massimiliano Allegri for creating healthy competition at the San Siro.
If Musah does look to complete a move away from the Rossoneri this summer, then he already has a list of potential suitors including a move towards the south of Italy with Napoli.
According to reports, Antonio Conte is a huge fan of the American international and the clubs are discussing the possibility of an agreed transfer for around $30m.
Nottingham Forest have also shown interest in the 22-year-old and former Serie A defender, Alexi Lalas, has given his thoughts on what Musah should do ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
What Did Alexi Lalas Say About Yunus Musah and Timothy Weah?
The former USMNT star made 44 appearances in Serie A for Padova during the early stages of his career and went on to become a stalwart for his national team.
Accumulating 96 caps for the American national side and competing at two World Cups, Lalas is often regarded as one of the best players to ever come out of the nation.
He now acts as an analyst on Fox Sports, covering Major League Soccer primarily, however, in a recent podcast the 55-year-old revealed that Musah’s upcoming season could be huge for the USMNT in 2026.
Lalas said: “The curious case of Yunus Musah. I remember years ago when he burst on the scene and we extrapolated it out. This is what he is now, so hopefully if whatever move ends up happening here, he gets to a place where he’s playing.
“We still don’t know the circumstances from this summer, but whatever he was dealing with, I hope that he has dealt with it, and I hope that he can concentrate and get back on the field in a consistent way.”
Another USMNT star that has caught the headlines in recent weeks is Juventus star, Timothy Weah, who is edging closer to a completed switch to France by joining Marseille.
The 25-year-old turned down the opportunity to join Nottingham Forest in the early stages of the summer and is now undertaking a medical to join the Ligue 1 side.
Marseille should be able to offer Weah more playing time in a preferred position, but the French giants are huge outsiders to win the league titles on offshore sportsbooks – meaning the American may be brought in to close the gap on PSG.
Lalas commented on the Juventus player’s decision to move on from Italy, as he believes that Weah failed to make a ‘Pulisic-esque’ impact during his time in Turin.
Lalas said: “Well, I think that this is a good move for Timmy Weah. I think he had a good time in Italy. It wasn’t a Pulisic-esque type of impact, but I think he and his agent played this well in terms of getting to a place where I think he recognizes he’s going to have a good chance to play and where he’s going to be comfortable.”
