Premier League icon, Ashley Young, has highlighted the key quality that Scott McTominay possesses and claims the Scotsman has found the perfect club with Napoli.
What Did Ashley Young Say About Scott McTominay?
The Scottish international was one of the biggest talking points of the 2024/25 season, as he won the leagues MVP award during Napoli’s title-winning campaign.
Scoring 12 league goals alongside a host of impressive performances, which included a vital goal on the final day to secure Napoli’s second league title, truly cemented McTominay’s place in the hearts of supporters.
Many fans were skeptical over his move to Italy after falling out-of-favor at Manchester United, but the 28-year-old silenced his critics emphatically and left Manchester United supporters questioning why he was allowed to leave.
During his time in Manchester, McTominay made 255 appearances after making his way through the United academy, winning the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
United’s 2024/25 campaign was far less impressive, finishing 15th in the league and being more likely to be relegated from the Premier League than winning the title on the best betting apps.
One man that has enjoyed success in both Serie A and the Premier League, while also playing alongside McTominay is Ashley Young, winning the Italian top-flight with Inter and the Premier League with Manchester United.
The 40-year-old has made 485 appearances in England’s top flight, playing with McTominay between 2016-2020 and the veteran highlighted the Scotsman’s key quality – also claiming Napoli was perfect for his former teammate.
Ashley Young said: “He was one of them youngsters who came into the first-team when we were there, and he had that hunger, desire, and belief. He just wants to do well from a young age.
“I was surprised that Man Utd let him leave. I always knew that if he had a new challenge, it would be perfect for him. Saw him at Napoli, with Antonio Conte, I knew the manager would love him. He just wants the hardest-working player. I’m delighted for him.”
Could McTominay Leave Napoli?
Following this successful season in Naples, McTominay has attracted interest from a host of clubs around the globe, including a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia.
However, the former Manchester United is said to be very happy in Italy and is not interested in planning on leaving Napoli this summer – aiming to help his side retain the Serie A title.
The Scottish international has three-years remaining on his current deal in Italy and the Serie A side would be looking for a monstrous offer to let their star man leave.
Napoli are reportedly interested in replicating their success with McTominay by signing another struggling Manchester United star, as the Serie A side are targeting a move for Alejandro Garnacho.
The Argentinian has fallen out-of-favor under Ruben Amorim, questioning the manager’s decisions in United’s Europa League final defeat against Tottenham.
This has led to the 21-year-old being exiled from training with the first-team, joining Marcus Rashford for individual training and both are set to leave Manchester this summer.
