AS Roma fans flooded the streets with yellow and red as the three-time Serie A champions celebrated their 98th anniversary on July 21st.
Why Did Roma Celebrate 98th Anniversary?
On July 21st, AS Roma fans took to the streets to celebrate the clubs’ 98th year of existence and acknowledge one of the biggest soccer clubs in Italy.
Yellow and red could be seen all over Rome, which is often divided due to another Serie A side residing in the city, but there was no room for the blue of Lazio.
Founded in 1927, AS Roma was created by the combination of three Italian Football Championship teams that were competing in Rome, as Italo Foschi combined Roman FC, SS Alba-Audace and Fortitudo-Pro Roma SGS.
Since then, the Italian side has become one of the most iconic clubs in the world, being the home of some of the sport’s biggest names like Franceso Totti, Daniele De Rossi, Gabriel Batistuta and Cafu.
The Giallorossi will enter a new era for the upcoming 2025/26 season, as Gian Piero Gasperini enters his first campaign as Roma boss following a nine-year spell with Atalanta.
Roma begin their 2025/26 pre-season tour on August 2nd and Gasperini will be looking at his current squad to see what needs changing after the Italian side finished fifth last year.

Who Is The Oldest Serie A Team?
Although Roma are closing in on their 100th anniversary, the Giallorossi are not the oldest team in Serie A and this record belongs to nine-time Italian league champions, Genoa.
Genoa, also known as Genoa Cricket and Football Club, began it’s existence in 1893 and is regarded as Italy’s oldest existing soccer team – but have failed to live up to this title in the 21st century.
The Italian side won the first Serie A (Italian league) in 1898, going on to win eight more, but the northwestern Italian side have not won the top-flight title since 1923/24.
In fact, Genoa’s last piece of silverware came all the way back in 1989, as Francesco Scoglio guided his side to a Serie B title and earned a place back in the top division.
More recently, the oldest Italian soccer team returned to Serie A in 2022/23 and managed to maintain their place in the division for two consecutive seasons – finishing 11th in 23/24 and 13th in 24/25.
Despite establishing themselves as a consistent part of Italy’s top-flight, Genoa are one of the favorites to be relegated from the division on Serie A betting sites – under the control of Patrick Vieira.
How Many Trophies Have Roma Won?
Despite their legacy within the nation, Roma have struggled to find success in domestic and European competitions in recent years – last winning the Scudetto in 2001.
