Alexis Saelemaekers Makes Final Decision On AC Milan Future After Successful Loan Spell In Rome

Start

Alexis Saelemaekers has committed his future to AC Milan despite a successful loan spell with Roma during the 2024/25 campaign.

Will Alexis Saelemaekers Leave AC Milan?

The Belgian international joined Milan in September 2020 and has failed to make a lasting impact at the San Siro, leaving on multiple loan deals since 2023.

During the 2023-24 campaign, the 26-year-old joined Bologna on loan, contributing to seven goals (4G + 3A) in 32 appearances across all competitions.

Saelemaekers was then loaned out again during the 2024/25 campaign and enjoyed a more successful time, contributing to 14 goals for Roma and forming a strong relationship with Claudio Ranieri.

Following this strong performance, Milan are reportedly keen on keeping a hold of the Belgian this summer and Massimiliano Allegri is said to be a huge fan of Saelemaekers.

Milan are reportedly interested in signing Edson Alvarez to strengthen their squad this summer, making Saelemaekers’ place in the squad seem uncertain – however the Belgian has revealed that he plans on staying with the Rossoneri.

Saelemaekers said: “Now I’m here to stay. I’m happy to be back, I missed it. Now we’re going to do something big this year. It was an experience for me to go on loan to other clubs, this one also made me grow.

“I have this feeling of taking something back here and I hope to do it with the whole team. It’s always nice to see all the people here at Milanello, it’s like a family. I’m happy about this too.”

Why Did Roma Not Sign Alexis Saelemaekers?

Many were surprised when Roma decided to not jump at the chance to sign Saelemaekers this summer, especially after his strong display on the Italian capital last season.

However, the Giallorossi refuses to meet Milan’s asking price of around $25 million and Allegri’s appointment provided a change of viewpoint for the Rossoneri as the veteran manager is said to be a fan of the Belgian’s versatility.

Roma have also appointed a new head coach in Gina Piero Gasperini, who may be looking to sign players of his own instead of looking into last season’s star performer.

The Rome-based side are huge outsiders to win the league title on Serie A betting sites and even Gasperini has admitted that his side are not good enough to win the Scudetto.

Although a deal involving Saelemaekers appears to be unlikely, Roma can revisit a move by meeting Milan’s asking price but Gasperini appears to be unwilling to allocate his limited funds towards the Belgian.
